TOE item upgrades for LCU's

I have a question for all the land guru's out there about replacements and upgrades.

What is required before a line item in a unit's TOE will upgrade to a newer item?

For example, in my CHS game I have Aussie armor units that have the Vickers Mark VI tank in their starting TOE. They start way understrength, and the replacement rate is only 1/month. The Vickers Mark VI tank upgrades to the Valentine III tank, which is available at start as well. Assuming supply and leadership checks are all good, what does it take for the LCU to upgrade to the newer tank? The replacement rate for the Valentine III is 10/month.

Do I need to build enough Valentines in the pool to replace the active number of Vickers in the LCU, do I need to have enough to replace the entire TOE number, or is it something else?

I may be obsessing a little too much over my replacements for all my LCUs, but I'd like to get an estimate of when this unit might be ready for combat. If it's only 1 tank/month, the war will end first. [8|][:D]

Mike, you need to have enough in the pool to fill up the TOE completely.  Just like upgrading an air unit.

I believe that is correct.  If the TOE calls for 50 tanks (even if it only starts with 20 Vickys), you need 50 Valentines to upgrade.  Actually, are you sure they upgrade to Vtines?  I thought they went to Stuarts (and you should have plenty of those).

That's what I was afraid of, but also what I suspected was most likely.

I double checked with the editor for scenario 155 (CHS w/no Nikmod). Vickys upgrade to Valentines.

Between the Aussies and the Indians, I have a LOT of units that need a LONG time to fill out their tanks. [8|]
