Grand Strategy AAR

Post by golden delicious »

Hello there. Some of you will be aware of my Grand Strategy game, but for those of you who aren't, it's an attempt to simulate the full scope of war using TOAW as the operational model, with external rules to cover all other aspects (production, naval warfare, logistics, engineering etc.). It's set in a fictional 1940s-era world with a map kindly provided by Rhino Bones. There are seven player-powers and two (originally four) neutrals.

We have been playing now for 13 game months and one war has already been fought to conclusion, whilst a second has just broken out. One of our players has kindly agreed to write an AAR of the first war, in which he was the protaganist. Here's one of the more dramatic passages;

At 1 PM on the 6th, the 2nd Armored Division, advancing on the northern flank, suddenly reported heavy resistance to the east, gave another hurried report of more forces to the south an hour later, and then totally ceased all radio contact. It was later learned that the entire division had been lured into a gigantic trap, stumbling into a line of Polish infantry, cut off by cavalry and mechanized forces, and then pounded into submission. When commander John Sedgewick was killed by direct artillery fire at an amazing distance, the division simply disintegrated, fleeing the field of battle pell-mell.

You can read the whole of the first installment on the game's forum, here;
