Jack vs A6M3/A6M5

Post by U2 »

I need some advice from someone with experience...

It's late July 1943 and I will soon start producing A6M5s for my carrier groups. My question is how good the Jack is vs the A6M3/5 models. There are plenty of non-carrier squadrons out there to upgrade. So far I have not produced many Jacks and I have about 150 in service and 120 in the AC pool.

So all out A6M5 or increase my production of 50 Jacks/month so it's more balanced?

Oh and is the A6M5c anything to have?

Jack is Corsair compared to A6M5! Sure, it can not stop Thunderbolts but it is fine ac, much better than Zero family..

As for Zeke FB, keep them... i think they are good against unescorted heavy bombers.

U2 perhaps post this on the open forum not everyone looks in here.

I'm playing my first PDU On game (all others were PDU off) and PDU on is different universe as regards this question. In my current game I plan to convert about half of my land based navy fighters units to JACK .. but I'm doing this on "spec" .. just looking at the stats .. not based on EXP. But I think some guys like Irrelevant might be able to help based on EXP. They just might not look here asap.

Jacks are great bomber killers although they do "struggle" with the later gen allied fighters, Range is alot less that than the Zero Family. This makes them an excellent point defence fighter bit like the later mark spitfires.

Plus they look fantastic!

Just my 2 pence worth.
I might not be right.
Hell I am probaby wrong.
But thats my opinion for what its worth!

My P-38s just had their first two encouters with Jacks, much different than the zero. I would rate well piloted Jacks to roughly equal well piloted P-38s.

12/43 - CHS 1.x - I'm the allies.

I hate those d@amn Jacks. Even F4U-1s (which are toned down a bit in CHS) have trouble with them under the wrong (or right) circumstances. While they're no match for Thuds, I'm keeping my P-38s (even the J model) away from them when I can. They've impressed me far more than either the A6M5 or even the George.

In mid-late '43 it's by far the best air superiority fighter that the Japanese have IMO.

Almost agree with Ctangus, except with comparision Jack/George. George has better survival chance than Jack - think that have something with manevour ratings...

This is because in our game I have two models of Georges.
N1K1 is worse than J2M, but Chuck, wait a bit till I get N1K2...

I prefer the Jack A LOT!  They are good, solid fighters and do well against everything but the last of the Allied fighters.

The A5 goes on CVs because I cannot cheat and put anything else there!  [:D]

The George seems to be a pretty good fighter.  I am building more of them in my June 1944 campaign with Wolfpack.
