The CPT and the ADM CptSherwood(J) vs AdmSpruance(A)

Post by Cpt Sherwood »

One of the conditions the ADM made is that I need to do a Stratagy AAR. I'l try anyway.

This is a CHS 155 game with me as the Japanese and the ADM as the Allies. I do plan on blitzing him a bit( a few lessons I was taught a long time ago ). As always, my immediate goals will be to take the SRA and get production ramped up. As per agreement, I will be landing at Guam, Vigan, Appari, Battan Island, and Khota Baru on the first turn. I will be making a strike on PH, I hope it goes well. The first turn has been sent off and I am awaiting the return.

Allied ground losses:
49 casualties reported

Airbase hits 59
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 237

That is 19 Torpedo hits( counting the one that hit a PT ). That is not too shabby.

I plan on a second day of attacks - I hope it happens. All of my landings went good. Only Battan Islands changed hands. I should take Guam, Aparri, and Vigan this turn. I am also landing Paratroops at Jolo Island and two units at Tavoy. That will allow me to extend my air power to places the ADM does not want me to. Mini-KB is formed and will be covering a landing by two NLFs at Manando. The 35th Brigade is loaded and moving toward Kuching while two NLFs are heading for Miri and Bruni( there is also a base force going to Bruni) The Eastern side is quiet and I have Betty/Nells at all of the 4+ airfields there. Two units at Kwajilien and one at Truk.

As per our agreement, KB is now retiring to the West - it will provide cover support for the Wake Island invasion. I don't want the ADM to interferr with a CV or two( well, maybe I do want him to try [:D] )

Everywere else things went about as normal. Paratroopers took Jolo Island and now will transport part of a Avation unit and some supplies so I can fly DBs and Ftrs from there. The Paratroopers failed to take Tavoy, he put some fighters on CAP duty there. I am sweeping with Zeros and escorting with Oscars. I have some LBs also doing a gound attack to disrupt them( I had a 2-1 attack and reduced the forts down to 0. ) Guam, legasppi, Appari, and Vigan have all joined the Coprosperity Sphere. Khota Baru should fall this turn and troops will start landing at Kuching, Miri, and Bruni next turn, or the turn after, I forget.

I am trying to cut off his naval surface movement around the PI, Northern DEI and Malaya area for now. Manado will provide some cover for forces to land at Kendari and Ambonia soon. That will cut off naval surface movement in the south also.

Well, I wonder what Spruance is up to at Raboul?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Rabaul at 62,90

Japanese Ships
SS RO-68

Allied Ships
CA Louisville, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage sunk!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have 6 RO subs around there, maybe I can bag an AP with troops on board.

Kota Bharu is now Japanese, the damage is severe, but the airfield will be operational
in a couple of turns. The 18th Div, 3rd Mortor and 5th Mortor are following the
retreating units. All the way to Singapore. [:)] I have the 2nd Tank Reg and the 23rd
Eng Reg doing a bit of R&R at Kota Bharu. They will rejoin in a few turns.

This turn I will be landing the 16th INF division at Naga, and the 21st INF Div is not far behind
- it is loaded on 20+ knot APs.

I only attacked with the Kure 1st SNLF at Legasppi but I also have the Shuzan Nav Gd
unit there. I am hoping he moves his unit(s) at Naga! I don't think even 2 PI
INF Divs can take back the hex( there is 140 AV there).

I am still unloading troops and supplies at vigan. Next turn I will start the march to San Fernando.

I forgot that I was taking Makin Island this turn. I just left the FT TF with its "historical" orders.

Looks like I missed a couple of days and then had to leave town for 5 days. Time for some picts and discussion.

First up is China:

First thing to note is that it is 12/16/41 and Hong Kong has been taken. [:)]

Spruance is doing some harassments by moving some of his units to my bases. I will just use them to
improve experience levels and slowly move them back. I am surrounding some of them and will eliminate
some units.

Next up is Borneo:

With the taking of Kuching, I now control a lot of the sea lanes around Java, Sumatra, Malaya, and the Java Sea. I have some Mary DBs, Bettys and A6M2s stationed there to keep the Allies out.

I have the 4th and 21th Ind Bges prepping for Tarakan and Balikipapan.

And now Malaya:

As noted on the Pict, it appears that Spruance is falling back to Singapore very quickly. I have sent a
FT TF with a NLF to Kuantan and a BF and Engineer unit to help support air ops. If he has left it free of
troops, I should take it with little or no damage. And that will let me fly Lilys and Sallys over Singapore
at less range. I am trying to keep IJA LBs bombing Singapore to keep him from building any more forts.

I have a lot of forces moving down the West side( 5th ID, Guards, 2xARM Btn, 2xEng, 2xART ) and a
sizeable force moving down the middle( 18th ID, 1xENG, 1xART ).

I am using my Nells and Bettys for Naval Attack only.

And last for now is the PI:

Taking Jolo Island with paratroops gave me a nice place to fly my land based Kates and some IJA DBs.
I was able to sink a number of ships fleeing the PI. I also had mini-KB in the area also.

I think he landed something at Lucerne, I am not sure what yet, but I will know soon. I have two
IDs and the large Shuzan Nav Gd moving from Naga to Lucerne. I have the 48th ID and the 65th IB
with ARM, ART and ENG units at San Fernando moving to Lingayen and then on to Clark Field. I have
two NLFs at Tuguegarao moving to Baguio(?). I expect to at least start pinning his forces and reducing
them over time. I have an ID moving to Cayagan with a BF that will provide an excellent air base to
use for supporessing some of the units isolated on islands. I also have units moving to Davao to take it.

Two more turns in the books. Spruance did a number on Tavoy in the first turn:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Tavoy , at 28,37

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 19
Blenheim I x 28
Blenheim IV x 26
Hudson I x 19
IL-4c x 10

Allied aircraft losses
Blenheim IV: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
150 casualties reported

Airbase hits 11
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 32
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But the next turn:
Day Air attack on Tavoy , at 28,37

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 44
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 25

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 25
Blenheim I x 28
Blenheim IV x 21
Hudson I x 18
IL-4c x 11

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 11 damaged
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 1 destroyed, 9 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Buffalo I: 8 destroyed, 4 damaged
Blenheim I: 10 destroyed, 8 damaged
Blenheim IV: 13 destroyed
Hudson I: 7 destroyed, 4 damaged
IL-4c: 4 destroyed, 3 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
13 casualties reported

Runway hits 6
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not a lot happening - I am moving units and getting them ready for
the next round. The 4th IB is loading with a BF to land at Tarakan.

I have the 2nd ID and the 56th ID moving to Truk for invasions of
Raboul and Port Mosby. I am moving two small NLFs and 4 BFs to the
area along with a Av Reg and some const engineers. I plan on blitizzing
the area with support from KB.

The war in China goes slowly, I move one unit of his back to Honan and
am attacking 4 other locations - mostly with Bombardments to kill his
supply and to disable his troops. I am not surrounding them now, just
trying to move them back. Once I can get a bunch moving back, then I can
keep them moving until they find a good supply hex. I do not want a war
in Asia, but I must push him back if he is going to push into my areas.
