Hi Guys

Post by RevRick »

I am back. I just got back from a six day stay at St. Vincents in Jacksonville for an utterly unexpected five way heart bypass surgery. I went into the local Hospital to check on some pain from was was supposed to be GERD - and -- oila!-- instant cardiac intensive care. I won't be very active for a while (six to eight weeks min!) but it looks like I got a real great Christmas gift. They caught the problem before I had the heart attack with my name on it.

I guess there are two ways to look at it. You had to spend Christmas in the hospital. On the other hand, you got a ticking time bomb defused for Christmas.

Glad you're still with us! Though sorry to hear you had to go through what you did.

I'm glad to hear that you're doing well now, and doubly glad that they caught it in time.

It looks like you have access to your computer, so I guess it's WITP time!

2 things:

1. For Christ's sake no-one sink his carriers for 6 to 8 weeks.
2. Any new games started in that time must have surprise OFF ;).

On a more serious note: Better to have it sorted now before your cardiac muscle is damaged than after you get an infarvtion and it gets damaged. Best wishes.

Glad to hear you caught it in time. Lesson to all of us to listen to our bodies.

My prayers will be for calm seas and a brisk wind to speed your recovery.

Take it easy....stay away from wargames for a week to ease cardiac output.

Stick to shooters.....much more relaxing. [;)]

What he said. WitP can't be good in your condition.

Rest, relax, recuperate.

I am more rested today.. and really appreciate your wishes and prayers. Right now, from what I have been told, what will probably happen is that because I did not have the heart attack aheadin' down the track, but got the problem corrected, I will have more energy and enthusiasm because this stuff creeps up on you very sneakily. And you don't realize all that is happening. When your body recovers from the trauma inflicted upon it correctively, it is stronger and more able to live fully.

I feel very lucky, but more blessed. I have been blessed to become a minister of the Gospel, and now I have been blessed with a The New Physicians Version of the gospel of fitness, diet and exercise - to be put into play when I recover. One of the Chaplains who visited with me had the same thing happen to him twelve years ago, and told me that the years since have been have been more fulfilling, happy, and enjoyable than those years he lived before the surgery. I can believe it. Now everyone repeat after me. We Will Get our Checkups... We will get our checkups....We will throw down the ciggy butts...

Shalom , and thank you again, my friends...

Yes, you definitely had someone up above looking out for ya. Good thing he gave you that little nudge to go get examined.

Well, gotta go. My coffee is getting cold and my son is trying to steal my doughnut. Where did I put my cigarettes? [:D]

Seriously, as a nurse working in long term care, I have seen what happens to people who refuse to look after themselves. It ain't pretty.

Best wishes and here's to a happy, and healthy, New Year!
