Expanding cities

Post by Crimguy »

Confused. When a city has, e.g. 8/8, can you build a mansion or plantation at that point to add more buildings?

If not, is there any way to destroy a building?

I'm sure you can build a plantation/mansion when it hits 8/8. I'm sure I have.

If you want a building destroyed just piss off the citizens and maybe they'll do it for you. [:D]

When the building allotment is full, you can only build a plantation (which takes ages, hehe).

OK, I stand corrected on building at 8/8.

What is the total building limit 32 or 36? (after plantations?) I can't even get the build screen to come up in '64 for Richmond - I guess it is maxed.

I believe it is a total of 36 buildings, including the buildings that dont count against mansions.

I thought the manual said the max was 30.

I was looking at expanding Pittsburgh, and it was at 8/8. I had the resources, yet could not expand. Not sure if it's a bug but will get back to you on that. . .

NewYork quit allowing expansion for me at 36 buildings.

Believe me 8 is no where near the limit. Either you didnt have the needed material OR you were not building a mansion.

Mansions can be built on either side, plantations just in the South. These can be built at ANY time -- no need to wait until a city is at 4/4 or 8/8, etc. They do not count towards the building maximum, so a city at 8/8 can still have one built. There is no way to destroy buildings, since there should never be a need to do so if one is running this aspect of the game well.
