4th and last in the series. Some of the Persian coast line is done but not all of the Persian Gulf (e.g., Trucial Oman & Basra aren't finished).

Isn't the Nile delta region supposed to be swamp?

I've seen it modelled like that in operational level games, with the river opening out into a swampy delta. TOAW scenarios come to mind.

There are a lot more map segments to go. So far we have done from Spitzbergen to Cape Town. We still need to do from the Urals to Iceland (travelling east).

We'll post them all for your review because that many hexes offers a world (intended) of opportunity for mistakes.

Believe me or not, all that French translations have nothing to do with me editing the map, I promise !!! They all were present on the original map, I swear !!! Anyway, I do find this great, andI hope MWiF will keep these French names of French African Colonies.

A remark on Morroco minor country names:

Spanish Morocco would be a more correct name for Er Rif (Sp). Spanish Morocco was the official name for the colony (1912-1956).

The Rif Republic existed only a couple of years during the 1920s before Spanish and French forces overcame the national resistance.

I know Er Rif (Sp) is in WiF FE so it is perhaps not editable.

Well, what you write here is worrying me.
First because of the name, that I would like to change but as you remarked, is already El Rif in the paper version of the game.

Second, because on this map, Tangier is marked as an "International Zone", and it seems quite large, and I wonder about what this "international zone" means.

Third because on this map, in southern Morocco, there is a Spanish enclave, that I'm contemplating to put into the MWiF map.

And Fourth because researching this map, I found out that Fès (or Fez) in northern central Morocco, was more than 100k inhabitants in the 40s (it was 120,000 in the 10s-20s), so I'm also tempted to ask to add it [:D]

Would you happen to have a larger map of this ?

Opinions ?

The dates are from 1912 to 1956. It's possible that some of the political divisions are: pre-WWI, WWI, pre-WWII, post-WWII. We are only interested in 1936 to 1946 - roughly.

Ahlner's comment about the name should receive serious consideration - it is an easy correction to make and doesn't affect game play. Though "map-change creep" on the WIF FE European map would be an ugly thing to watch. We might have to fire repeated vollies of grapeshot into the rampaging mobs armed with keyboards.

Your other concerns, Patrice, based on this map's content would warrant more research.

Er Rif was the state that the Spain fought against, under Primo de Rivera in the 20´s. It is indeed a strange choice of name from Harry and his crew. If I recall correctly it was a state of tribes that we united under some kind of king or warlord.

An interesting detail was that the most elite infantry on the Nationalist side in the Spanish Civil War were Rif-troops, that agreed to help Franco against the promise of a free Rif (which was fulfilled after the second worldwar). When I do writeups for the Spanish Army I will surely have some references to this.

I would vote for change.

Río de Oro should definitly be on the map too in my opinion. It sheds some light on what is today Western Sahara.
