Man, the west has not been holding up their end of the bargain. It looks like 'West Germany' is going to be synonymous with Bavaria, and that Italy's communist party will be finlandized.

Yeah, post-war Europe will look a lot different than historically was the case... The Soviets' southern approach is going quite well while their Western allies have been bogged down in France...

22 January 1944
ALLIES capture Kiel.

29 January 1944
AXIS capture Prague.

5 February 1944
AXIS capture Munich. The Soviets overextended their supply lines

12 February 1944
ALLIES capture Sarajevo. Local isolated German counter offensive rebuffed

19 February 1944
ALLIES capture Split. Cleaning up operations in the Balkans.. Next comes Greece.. Stalin can't believe it. The Communist sphere will reach farther in Europe than was first expected... at the same time -in official communiques- he blames the Western allies for lack of spine and guts! "Wait a minute" replies Roosevelt... "Our boys came all the way through Spain!"

26 February 1944
AXIS successfully defend Lille.
AXIS successfully defend Krakow.
AXIS successfully defend Prague. Three major choke points

5 March 1944
AXIS successfully defend Milan. Meanwhile, an Italian counteroffensive into Eastern France threw the Allies back
AXIS successfully defend Warsaw. The Soviet offensive in the Center is grinding down... They need to get some rest in order to conduct a succesfull summer offensive which has to take them to Berlin before year's end... What the Western allies are concerned, it'll be a tremedous achievement if they can hold on to Paris and Northwestern France till their reinforcements arrive...

12 March 1944
ALLIES capture Dresden. ...and come within two hexes from Berlin!
ALLIES capture Breslau.
ALLIES capture Krakow.

19 March 1944
ALLIES capture Warsaw. Succes in Poland, at last

26 March 1944
AXIS successfully defend Milan.
ALLIES capture Lille. But at what price? The battle for Lille was the bloodiest for the Western allies thus far
ALLIES capture Danzig...cross the Weichsel and form a bridgehead. This might lead to the isolation of the remaining German units in Poland

The Soviet advance in the East and South forced Elmer to transfer units away from the Western front. Note the gaps in the lines in Belgium and Holland.. this gives the Allies some respite and allowed for a limited advance: Lille was finally taken... but Paris is being approached from the Southeast... There are US reinforcements in Iceland which include two Airborne units... I plan landings in Calais and Zeebrugge combined with operations from the units in Denmark in order to give Elmer a busy time... jeez he's been shifting units like mad the last few turns... I'll have to move quickly before he regains his composure and his units recover
In Italy I'd like to get my hands on Milan, other actions will be limited to holding positions behind the rivers as I've got Trieste and Venice.
Soviet units in Finland are pursuing the "Norwegen" army withdrawing after the fall of Helsinki... Stalin grins when he envisages a Communist Norway and good access to the Atlantic all year round.... and that's not only to catch some Nordic salmon [;)]

Here's a tiny movie, the last three turns by the Allies... Notice the gains made in Poland... it almost seems as the Soviets are choking the life out of the Third Reich...

I'm a convert myself[;)]... from WiR that is.

East meets West!... at the Rhine, a nightmare for the Western alliance... and now I think about it, the end of this scenario would make for a nice sequel "Battle For Europe 1944-1946" or some similar title.... as the former Allies battle it out against eachother with the Rhine as Iron Curtain... If a conflict between the two sides would break out now, the British and Americans would be swept off the map...

16 April 1944
ALLIES capture Antwerp.
ALLIES capture Lodz. The German garrison held out for four weeks

23 April 1944
AXIS successfully defend Athens.
AXIS successfully defend Luxemburg.

30 April 1944
ALLIES capture Copenhagen. I had to counter a daring amphibious operation by the Germans last week which captured the city... their last huge effort of the war it seems.
AXIS successfully defend Athens. defended by an airunit and a fortified coastal battery
ALLIES capture Luxemburg. and advance in several sectors meeting up with the Soviets who I halted at the Rhine. Both sides co-operated in attacking and isolating German units but I restricted the Soviets to make limited attacks only once they reached the Rhine...
In Northern Italy the British made contact with the Soviets based near Milan.
Above the polar circle the fighting retreat of the German Nordic army continues, Soviets approach Narvik

7 May 1944
AXIS successfully defend Athens.
AXIS successfully defend Karlsruhe.
AXIS successfully defend Poznan.

Halway through May 14 1944 - Turn 246, Allies will move next

21 May 1944
 ALLIES capture Karlsruhe.

28 May 1944
 ALLIES capture Cologne.
 ALLIES capture Ravenna.

11 June 1944
 ALLIES capture Toulon.

18 June 1944
 ALLIES capture La Spezia.
ALLIES capture Tromso. Soviet advance in Norway

25 June 1944
Allied bombing becomes more intense
ALLIES capture Amsterdam.
2 July 1944
ALLIES capture Athens. The Soviets control Greece

9 July 1944
ALLIES capture Narvik. More Soviet gains in Norway

16 July 1944
ALLIES capture Naples. British seaborne assault, combined with attacks along the west coast
AXIS successfully defend Berlin. The end is near...

23 July 1944
ALLIES capture Rome.Succes for the Western allies. The Soviets are advancing along the eastern coast of Italy... Post-war Italy will be divided...

30 July 1944
Rome is Captured! Italy Surrenders!
The surrender of Italy penalizes the Axis war effort!
Vichy units disarmed,collaborators dispersed.
Italy falls to the Allies!
Germans massacre thousands of surrendered Italians!
Axis shipping permanently crippled!
The surrender of Italy adds to the Allied war effort!
 ALLIES capture Berlin.

6 August 1944 Turn
Berlin is captured, Germany surrenders!
The Allies have won the War!

Conclusion, good game for WW2 enthousiasts. The Axis are initially very strong, and in PBEM or hotseat they can win this scenario.

Superb AAR, Silvanski. I just read the whole thing through. Very good read. Thanks for posting it.

Yes, as my sig suggests, I very much like to re-write history.
After looking at your AAR it appears that the PO could use a little tweaking, eh?
In a game I've started (Turn 91). I control all of NA save Tripoli. I still hold Greece and will continue to unless the PO does something unexpected, which, of course, it won't. As well, it took the PO five months to take Paris.

If I put a bit of time in tweaking the PO, and maybe some other minor changes (mostly formation changes so that the PO can be further refined) would you want to try again?

If you didn't let Tunis get occupied, the Vichy units don't show up and that keeps the axis from holding on in NA, I think.

Silvain, never got around to modding this. My plan was to split it into three 'parts' (using the three objective tracks.
A) Fall of Poland/France/Balkans/and attacks on the UK. Once France has been down for X turns, it would go to track B.
B) The attack into the Soviet Union. After a couple years it would turn into track C.
C) The defence of the Reich.
Maybe you could use these ideas as a startign point.
