Resolution Configuration

Post by Bil H »

Okay, using the full game I still am getting one entry that will not stick and needs to be reset every time I start the game. Resolution will not stick at 1920 x 1200 (wide), but keeps falling back to 1680 x 1050 (wide).. I have to reset it each time.

All the other settings stick fine.

I have a Dell 24" wide screen monitor and have it set to 1920 x 1200 res.

That's odd. I'll have to take a look into this. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It stores it properly on the various systems I've tried. I wonder if there's something unusual about how your resolution is reported that's making it default down to a lower level?

Could be my system... here are the specs:

GoBoxx 2302
P4 3.8GHz
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX Go1400 256MB

It is of course a mobile workstation with a 17" wide screen monitor which I normally use at 1680 x 1050 (when I'm not using the 24)...

I just did a check and even if I set the built in monitor to 1920 x 1200, enter the game, reset the screen res, exit, and re-enter the config still goes back to 1680 x 1050.

Its not a killer for me guys, don't lose any sleep over it.

Do you play other games at 1920x1200?

You bet.  Any that will allow playing at that resolution, COTA, SB Pro PE, and The Star and The Crescent are a few examples.  My stable is kind of small right now... and although I have played CM with this machine I can't remember (been a while) if it plays at full res or down scales the resolution...

Man, that thing must have cost you an arm and a leg.

That's more like a graphics workstation than a gaming rig.

You mentioned something about a "24," an external LCD I assume.

Is there anything in the Nvidia portion of your display properties that dictates which monitor outputs what signal and at what resolution?

If so, you might have the twinview settings wrong.

Also, I think that when a signal is set to be output to more than one display, it can degrade the capability of the graphics chip enough that the maximum resolution is actually reduced.

You might try disabling the output to the external monitor.

IF, on the other hand it's displaying the other games at the appropriate resolutions, then it's a likely a problem with PzC.

Sorry I'm can't be of more help,

It did [;)]

Handy that, as I do 3D animation and graphics for a living...

Affirmative.

Negative.

I do not use the two monitors (on the same machine) at the same time, although I can. The smaller attached monitor is disabled and the box is closed when I use the external 24.
Sorry I'm can't be of more help,

No worries [;)]

I have had problems with "non standard" (ie. other than 4:3 ratio) resolutions not sticking as well.

Hi Laryngscope,

When the resolution that you've set comes unstuck, does it defautlt to another non-standard resolution, as Bil's did?

Have you checked what DXDIAG says is your maximum display resolution? DirectX may be detecting it as lower than the display's native resolution.

I use PzC on a 24" 1920x1200 display and have no problem with the game doing that.

However, sometimes the Dell display doesn't properly recognize the input resolution and fiddles around with the display settings, shrinking the picture (while the card is still sending out 1920x1200). That's via the VGA port, of course.
