Adding Scenarios to Battlesets?? .dsd files?

Post by Blond_Knight »

Hey Guys, I know I saw this posted somewhere but I cant find it now and since I couldnt get it to work I thought I ask for clarification.
OK first off I dont really understand the differences in the databases, if theyre all based on factual data, isnt one pretty much the same as the other?
At any rate Ive DL'ed s few scenarios from Harpoonhq.com, coldwar scenarios. What I read was that if I pasted them into the \game folder\databases\odb\scenarios\coldwar folder and open the config launcher. I selected the standard db, and started the game from the launcher. From what I read here somewhere the launcher would rewrite the coldwar.dsd file and add the new scenarios to the battleset.
Ive tried it and cant get it to work, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Blond Knight

A little confussion here. A scenario must be run with the data base it was written with. You Need to make a new floder undere database for the new database, then a scenarios folder and text folder. Copy the scenarios to the scenario folder and the descritions to the txt folder. Copy the datbase the db folder you created. You can then select the database you created from the launcher, selection on the far right of the launcher screen. This will work with h3 that uses the launcher(3.6.. or 3.7.0/3.7.1). What you are describing could be from one of the utilities or older ways of setting up battlesets. The big thing is to remember the secenario will only run with the database it was designed with.

The difference in the databases is a subject that cases more hard feelings than anything else. They are a grat deal of work and the creaters take justifiable pride in the details, which are contraditory based on where you got your information, or how it was intergrated int a database. The margin for error is huge and complex. The information really needed is classified or intentionally miss represented. I seen carriers leave escorts doing over 30 knots behind (out of sight in about 4 hours). The only thing that came close staying with the TR when it had to dash accross the med a few years ago was it sub. It was nearly a day for the rest to catch up! It was in Itally and had to get to Bosnia in a hurry. The seals decided to some small boat work while they waite for the rest of the battle group to arirve and found a SSGN watching the carrier from about 2 miles! They circled it at hi speed to get attention and let every one know it was there!!!! The Navy says more than 30 knots, but is accually well over 40 at emergency (more than flank, which can be mantained for only a dash, or in longer in an emergency, but risky).

Hey folks,

We've covered adding 3rd party databases in a FAQ on our wiki

To create a battle set I suggest grabbing JP's Battlset Creator for Windows available at HHQ.
http://www.harpoonhq.com/utilities.htm

Mixing and matching scenarios to any database they were not made with will lead to an unstable program. Besides the details described nicely by VistaJohn, databases differ in the ordering of platforms which will screw up scenarios not made for that database.

Thanks

Here's the link to the FAQ as it is not apparent in my first post.

Thanks rsharp, thats exactly what I was looking for. BTW since its also written by Jan-Paul Köster(who write the Launcher), it might be a good idea to include it in the next patch, start a 'tool kit' of utilities.
