I have removed the discussion on altitude bands to minimize space in this thread.

Sometimes all this technical talk just ruins the mystery, enjoy the game first.

For DB1945 we use very low POK values, as low as 1% for light machine guns.

Were you guys able to get it to 1% consistently?

ISTR trying to make a weapon and I was testing to see just how low the PoK I could get it. It was a long time ago, but I thought that the game automatically gave it a minimum PoK of %5 and no matter what I did, I couldn't get it any lower than 5%.

I read through the AALogs and saw that the engagement parameters always ended up with a minimal PoK of 5% even though the counter-measures, DATA, and other modifiers would seem to indicate that the PoK should have been closer to zero.

Was I mistaken in some of this?

Stop giving VT a hard time and move forward. If you maintained a db for any amount of time I think you know the answer to your own question. Really wish you'd become more of a team player.

Editing some of this discussion on POK and AAA.

We are teaching scenario designers to model loss rates that they need through numbers of AAA mounts used, placement or by design instead of leaving it to chance. It is easy to "overload" any air defense in H3 and easy to put enough material on the ground to obliterate any air strike. You should test your scenario air defenses to make sure they are reasonable against what makes sense or is historically accurate. You cannot usually get there by chance. (In any Database)

Learn more about WW2 scenario construction at the Yahoo group or the HQ.

Thanks buddy, See ya Herman, see ya guys gotta go.

Hello VonTommer

I Used the DB1945 with the earlier H3 to do a couple of senarios in the Solomons. Found a couple of reports of the action with ship, commanders, and admirals for the landings and Savo Island battles. I had a great deal of fun with the DB. Now I can say thank you for yours and others work. By the by, the US Navy still list ships names (and date of loss, if appropriate for WWII ships). Your DB is very complete, even to the fact that some names for ships lost were recycled and fought again (and some were lost again). On the CV's this was to confuse the Japanese (The Essex Hornet, Yorktown, ect). I Lost the whole thing with a hard drive crash that was not backed up! Will have to get the DB again and get back to work. I still have the research, so can do it again much quicker. The radar guns were deadly on some of the DD's.

Anyway, thanks for the DB

John

Thanks to all you guys. I am actually the database's biggest critic and it is good to hear people are having good experiences with it. Sometimes I am too close to the project for proper perspective. I always enjoy any criticism esp. if it is good!

Thanks Vista John! Thanks guys!

If you have not seen this sight you might want to check it out.

http://www.navweaps.com/

It is extremely informative.  Has a page that lists the Order of battle for ALOT of surface engagements.  From the Russo-Japanese war to the Falklands in '82.  That would be for the scenerio makers.  Also has a page with gun data, including ranges, armor penetration, mounts, and mount weights.  Good site check it out, has some modern stuff on it also.  I found the Order of Battle pages very interesting.

One question in regards to W.W.II battles.  Does the game have any problems with the number of sea and air platforms that took part in some engagements, some of which were HUGE by the standards of the day let alone today.  I do not have a maasive computer and the last time I launched a volley of 61 TLAMS from various platforms at a number of different targets I was able to go cook dinner since they were flying at a little less than real time.

I have a very slow computer. 1.6gHz and 384mB RAM. I am able to play even the Monster-sized scens that have hundreds of missiles in flight. However, sometimes, it is 35 seconds of real time for 1 second of game time. [:(]

I'm sure that the bigger / newer computers can much more easily handle the computations. Some folks have tried my 5mB Axis of Evil for PlayersDB scen and found it a bit slow, but still functional. It is the largest H3 scenario ever built. [8D]

Well I took a look at the WWII DB 1945 and was throughly impressed. The amount of detail was fanatstic. To be honest I spent more time 'looking' through the DB than actually playing. I just could not help myself. A fantatsic job!

I wonder how long it will be before we can see what could have happened at Jutland?

I beleive that Mike Deegan's AOS Database has most or all of the units needed to do a Jutland battle. AOS is available at our WW2 Yahoo group too. You may want to write Mike and see what he has going on in AOS. Alot of WW1 stuff in there.

If any of you guys are not already at the HQ or the WW2 Yahoo group sign up!

We have a new scenario "GIUK1940" available. Royal Navy escorts against German U-boats in October 1940. Check it out.

We are in full scenario mode right now, constructing a number of scenarios. Stay close! These will be appearing over the next weeks.

Newest Database Version DB1945V3.7.1

I will have this version up at the HQWW2 yahoo group on 1/4/2007 with the scenario. It's done, just polishing up and last minute unit entries. I'll report in.

If you are running H3 or H3 ANW and spend time there, make sure you take advantage of all the available user databases for the game. There are alot of great scenarios, in a number of really good databases, that are at your disposal. Pick your period. This range of databases also offers more flexibility when writing your own scenarios.

DB1945V3.7.1 has new units and a new scenario "Heavy Danzig", which is a look at the air war over Poland in September 1939. We hope to have even more WW2 scenarios soon.
AOS or the Age of Steel is also available with scenarios, another great WW2 database and more! Check it out.

Go to the Harpoon HQ for more Harpoon, and other user databases, or join our WW2 yahoo group at the following LZ:
