HMS Manxman

Post by bradfordkay »

This is a ship that could seriously use new artwork. I'm playing the CHS, and in it this ship does not have anything near the grace that photographs show. Her bow is too blunt, she seems truncated, generally disappointing... I'm not meaing to hurt the feelings of whoever drew her, but I just think that she could be seriously improved.

Forget about the Taigei. Alikchi is sending me Cobra's shipside for the Shiushu, which is basically identical.

I thought you were talking about the Taigei, Brad. Missed the change in subject line. Cobra's redone the Manxman (or Abdiel class), ages ago, on my commission, actually. I've got the sides if you want them.

If anybody wants to have a go. This is the Japanese subtender Taigei, a fictitious vessel by Alt_Naval. It's a 14,000-tonner of 613 feet.

Note quite ficticious - just not completed in this form! She was rebuilt - and renamed - as a carrier - as was her sister. They were designed so they could be fast oilers, seaplane tenders or light carriers - whatever was required.

I know. It was a common hull. Didn't research all the way before I made the post... With all the "what-if" stuff on Alt_Naval's site, I figured he'd made up those as well.

Request for Andrew Brown

Post by GaryChildress »

I have a request for Andrew Brown if he is willing and able to do it for me. Pretty please with icecream on top? [:)]

Andrew, could you take a stock map and add Christmas Island (the one south of Java) and Keeling Island (a little farther south from Java) to it ? Also, on the same map could you throw in a few of the Society Islands? I was going to try myself, cutting and pasting some existing islands, but I can't get the islands lined up the same on the maps with and without hexes. [:(]

Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like

1. Widescreen support, and

2. A high-res version of WITP -- preferably 2560 x 1600, but I'll take 1900 x whatever or 1600 x whatever or anything!

RE: Artwork Programs

Post by TR Shrum »

This question may already have been asked, I just can't find it. What art programs are you folks using? I've tried Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for creating aircraft and ship artwork. Illustrator does a very good job, until exporting to BMP or JPEG. Once the file is reduced to fit the game, all resolution is lost. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or using the wrong program. It's obvious that there are several people doing great artwork for the game. It's just that I would like to do some for my own use without bothering the other folks. Could someone give me a direction to go?

Thanks

Has anyone tried their hand at redoing subs?

I've also run into some issues regarding simply not having subs in my art folder (it's what I get for erasing the whole thing). If anyone could send me a copy of the vanilla images or anything they may have on hand I would appreciate it.
Yamato, IMO the best looking Battleship.

Not a popular aircraft but thought the Vickers Vildebeest deserved better than stock artwork as we have couple of squadrons in Malaya
