It does seem ironic to survive the PH attack, only to be sunk by a british submarine four decades later...

The captain of the Conqueror had the choice between the old WWII Mk 8 torpedoes and the newer Tigerfish. He figured he could sink a 40-year old cruiser with three 40-year old torpedoes; he was right. I think he got two hits...

Thats and the tigerfish is famous for making new sand bunkers in sandwich golf course ,, they were not at all reliable back then.
