Jap cv-fighter prob

Post by Rapunzel »

Is there any known prob with japanese cv-fighter groups using 1.795 and niks mod? We had last turn an cv engagement. 4 japanese cv´s against 5 us-cv´s. My us-cv´s had their fighters hat 80% cap. His were set at 70% cap. Our problem is that his fighters did not show up. I could bomb his cv to hell without any resistance. His counter strikes did not have any escorts too. The zeros had evacuated themselves to wake. Is this a bug or just bad luck for my japanese oponent? His airgroups had 80+exp and were rested.

Don't know about NikMod specifically, but there is the infamous "missing pilot" bug. If a unit does not have at least as many pilots as it has planes - it often will not fly.

sounds like it.

always ensure all carrier squadrons have all their pilot slots filled and ensure that escort mission in daylight ops are selected.

Don't laugh....its easy to miss something. I just fought the mother of all carrier battles in a PBEM and found out after the fact that i'd somehow accidently set my fighters to 0 CAP. result: no CAP. no bug....just stupidity. (although ironically by doing so i was able to break through my oppoenents massive CAP and sink almost as many CV's as i lost....not bad for mid 43)

hi!

I am completely newby on this kind of wargame and trying to get accustomed by way of tutorial scenario yet.

I noticed that WITP can (or should) have some sort of warning messages about very serious user mistakes like this 0% air group setting etc...

My overall opinion on WITP is very positive on massive details and information but i think it is a bit un-friendly to starter like myself. (maybe i have to study very much to get "initiated" rank in the first place, not complainig about the program ^^a;)

Is this valid for ready planes only or are damaged and reserve planes to be taken into account also?
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

Each squadron/datai/chutai has a set strength (for Jap carrier units either 21, 24 or 27 typically).
if total of ready and damaged a/c is less than normal strength - 1 pilot for each a/c.
if total of ready/dam/reserve a/c is more than normal strength - pilots = normal strength.

a/c only go into reserve if there are more a/c than the normal strength of the unit

hope this makes sense - and that my facts are correct [&:]

sounds like the pilot bug to me also.

Rapunzel, since you're the allied player, you should offer to redo the turn and let him put pilots into the planes. otherwise it'll be a shadow over the rest of the game.

Hi qrf8933. Yes, WitP has the mother of all learning curves, but sounds like you're making progress. The tutorials are a great way to get started. Also, some of the smaller scenarios can be a lot of fun. You won't invest that much time and if you make a major mistake it won't cost you weeks of game play.

Also,

Check to make sure the Zero's do not have a set target of PH for example.

Well we did quit the game after two or three more turn... .
