Spwaw on Sale

Post by demyansk »

Hi
I used to play this game all the time. The Generals Edition is available. Question

Does this game have a decent screen resolution?
Does this game have problems with the patches?

I went to the forum site but it's 10 years old.

Any help is appreciated

Hello Demyansk

For the game to work properly on any kind of modern system (dual-core and up, any OS after XP) you will need to D/L from the SPWaW Depot a patched mech.exe file.
The patched mech.exe fixes the artillery screen bug, and speeds up a couple of other screens that weren't acting nicely.
It was just a few lines of code that were adjusted I believe.

The games now runs as it should.

You can get the patched file HERE!

The patch is FREE, because we Love You, you and every other owner of this fine game.

The screen resolution is the same, no change there.
BUT, if you have stupidly powerful computer with its own high-end graphics card you can run the game in DxWnd and apply some
Emulation Filters that can improve the resolution.

I THINK that the Generals Edition comes with the last version of the mech.exe file (8.403) so you're good to go in that respect.
No patches needed except for what I described above.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to you Demyansk, I went and bought the Generals Edition.

FWIW, I know that there is a few patches for the Mega-Campaigns floating around the Internet.
I do not know if these are included in the D/L from Matrix. I suspect not.
Gimme a day and I'll find what I can and post them here.

cheers

I checked, no need to patch this offering of the GE.

You might want to replace the color Palette. The new version has more muted, earth tone colors which get rid of a lot of the vivid, almost cartoonish colors that are present in what Matrix sells us. Just drop it in the root folder of your install and let it overwrite the original file.
EDIT: Gahhhhhhh, Matrix won't allow that file type.
OK, change the *.txt extension to .LBM, install and you're done.

Check out THIS thread, 2nd post. There is a helper program available that I never knew about before. If ya want it, I'll get it to you.
