Decoys

Post by Darth Holliday »

I cannot locate how to manually launch a decoy in Silent Service....Im not sure if it will help as I usually get destroyed rather quickly after launching nukes, but I need to try something else...(I think its the Lone Wolf Tutorial). Thanks

If you are talking about the 6-inch noisemakers, I don't think you can manually launch them. I believe they are considered terminal defense and are only handled automatically by the computer.

If I recall correctly, when you click on the "WEAPONS" button of the sub it says that are only automatic weapons.

Decoys like noisemakers on subs and chaff and flares are automated.

Specific decoys can be BOL-launched.

Are there any larger decoys which surface ships can place? IIRC, some ships have a deployable decoy and some submarines have a noise-maker. Are those useful?

If you look at a modern USN CG, you'll see it carries Nixie and Nulka decoys. But my experience is they are deployed automatically and come into play in final weapon calculation.

Every ship can be a decoy... once.

You mean like Mk234 Nulka? Those are automated too.

Thanks for the links. Is there any decoy which is long-term deployable? Something which can be dropped out of an airplane - the 5th battle has something like that. S-3s deploy a ship radar reflector away from the battle group and those reflectors eat a couple dozen Shipwrecks.

You can see decoy use in game log too.

Nothing like that from an airplane. There is one that is a raft that is towed behind a ship with a big inflatable decoy. I think it is also automatic in Command. I don't remember the name.

If that idea ends up with the Coast Guard getting called to pick up someone stuck on a raft in the ocean, holding a mylar balloon, and yelling "I'm a decoy" repeatedly, don't do it.
