Game is laggy and Slow?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Game is laggy and Slow?

Post by Misconduct »

So I just loaded a copy I had from long ago; I went into the game and it takes literally 30 seconds to click on something; any clues?

Read the thread immediately below this one and the one at the top of the box above. Those may help. If not try contacting zakblood, he is good at sorting this type of thing out.

Yeah, this is the same computer that I used to play it years ago; had no issues then - I had the problem before but I couldn't remember what I did to fix it.

I really don't think it's possible with newer versions of directx. You have to run it in windowed mode. There may be a 3rd party application that makes it work, I don't know.

That might be it; that sucks. I just tried a simple bombing run with 250 planes, and escorts on an old save; took almost 30 minutes no less! wow that sucks.

SOLVED: Game is laggy and Slow?

Hold the friggin phone - On a hunch I tried DXWnd on btr and it works! DXWnd will allow you to run the game full screen with performance like windowed mode.

DXWnd is available as freeware here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/
download and run the program and simply right click the screen and "ADD" btr.exe (it will let you browse) you may need to tinker with the settings, see below. It apparently knows what to do with directx automatically.

I been screwing around with this for 30 minutes plus; I cannot get a full screen, only 75% of the BTR Screen, and then its off to the top left corner where I can't click on the icons, only ESC to exit.

yes, I started getting inconsistent results too after I downloaded the latest version.

try removing all compatability settings including "run as administrator"

try tools/expert mode and then Run - hooked. try full screen only, center desktop.

Turn off window option toggle in EDBTR

Every system will be a bit different. works great on my PC but cant get aspect ratio to work on my laptop. Performance is super on both machines though. I'll keep messing around as well.

I managed to get in game; with it centered; you really really have to tinker with the settings; the game DOES work just fine though! However my mouse cursor was off by half an inch; other then that its highly playable. Trying to get the size correct is the issue; I'm using 1040x800 in Video settings; the cursor is only off by half an inch at that point; can't seem to get it centered; I tried playing with the cursor settings but its been over an hour; need a break :)

I messed with it for quite a while and could not get it to go full screen. Just as well, the game ran way to fast when launched with DXWnd.

I got it to goto full screen; but the mouse cursor is still off which is a royal pain in the ass. Trying to click a target is a problem when you are trying to setup fighter sweeps; its still half an inch off.

To get it in full screen; you have to lower your screen resolution; mines 2600x1600 down to 1200x800 or such.

check your pointer settings under settings->devices->mouse->additional mouse options. If it's not the windows default then try changing that.

Another major setting for DXWnd to work is that all compatibility settings must be removed from btr.exe.
You can do this easily under Tools -> Clear compatibility flags.
