Operation Apocalypse UPDATED!

Post by pjdegrieck »

Hey guys!

I just made a scenario called Operation Apocalypse. Please test it out for me. It's quite large. Here's the description:

UPDATE:

- Divided up your F-35s and other fighters more intelligently among your carriers
- Divided up Islamic Caliphate's fighters/bombers to more airfields so not as many crashes occur
- Added more point systems
- Added strategic nuclear exchange
- Slightly increase backfire attack tempo
- Altered some radar profiles

It's pretty much finished. I just have to fix some spelling errors before I publish it tomorrow.

2021: Islamic Caliphate forms from several Middle Eastern countries, lead by Iran

2022: Islamic Caliphate invites all Muslims to leave the West and to come "home". Millions abide.

Mid 2022 - 2023: Massive arms deals and licensing negotians are reached with China and Russia. Hundreds of combat systems are purchased, built, and deployed (this occurs to present day), in return, the supplying nations are basically provided free, unlimited oil. Russia has made large amounts of income by selling the excess to Europe. China consumes what it takes in.

2024 - 2025: Islamic Caliphate has the capacity to launch a large amount of nuclear warheads accurately to targets in Europe. Air defense networks are being installed indepth.

April 1st 2026: Several large nuclear explosions are recorded in Israel. Islamic Caliphate denies any responsibility, instead they blames terrorist groups operating outside of IC territory retaliating against Israels "crimes against humanity". Several army units enter Israeli territory to "curb a refugee crisis and to restore order". Communication has been cut off from Israel, and IC territory in general except for this cryptic statement "The Islamic Caliphate is currently providing humanitarian aid to Israel, and will oppose any outside foreign involvement into our matters. (a map appears showing Islamic State territory as well as a large part of the mediterranean with a red outline) Any foreign aircraft, naval vessels, and other foreign assets entering into our territory and exclusion zone will be treated as an enemy trying to disrupt our humanitarian effort."

April 10th 2026: The most powerful naval and air flotilla ever assembled, with more firepower than the whole of Europe combined, begins it's short trip to the Mediterranean exclusion zone to escort a large humanatarian convoy. Their destination: Israel.

This is a far fetched and fun scenario depicting a large scale air and naval operation over the mediterranean. Expect to combat large numbers of technology new and old. Use your advantage of stealth and speed to your advantage. The enemy is relentless.

Can't play the scenario because it has rail guns in it which are coming with the new DLC.

I played through the first 4-5 hours so far. Air fight was balanced, but I suggest balancing out the fighters onto each carrier. If you have 25 F-35s on each carrier instead of all 75 or so on the same one, then the recovery phase will be much easier. After launching all my F-35s to deal with the first wave of Su-35s and J-10s, I had to fight almost with one hand behind my back, because the Kennedy was recovering all those fighters, and couldn't launch the F/A-18s. I ended up sending about ~30 of the F-35s (and ~10 A-12s) to airbases in italy so my carriers could start launching fighters again. This wouldn't be an issue if the number of fighters on each carrier was more balanced (24 F-35, 2 E-2, 7-8 EA-18G, 24 F/A-18 per carrier), then I can launch and recover fighters more efficiently.

Lost a Cruiser, Destroyer, and Zulwalt to the ballistic missile strikes, which was annoying, because the missles easily changed targets after the original was destroyed, something that would certainly be harder to do IRL due to re-entry and all the factors associated with that.

Had some tense moments when the Backfires showed up, I had just recovered from the 2nd wave of strikes and my CAP couldn't push up fast enough to catch all the bombers. I got the last few groups, but at the expense of all my SM-6s, which meant that there were some very close calls with my ships.

Speaking of the 2nd wave, those T-50s seemed to make the biggest difference. On one hand, I think their radars were the most effective, detecting my F-35s and A-12s, and I lost several planes, compared to losing none while fighting the first wave. On the other hand, they were easily detectable because their radars were on. It could go either way if you want to keep their radars on or not.

Then Vatican City got hit, and I responded by spawning in a SSBN and hitting enemy airfields. My logic was that with a power as large and as anti-us as the Islamic Caliphate is, the US would absolutely have silos and SSBNs targeted and ready to fire, especially after they showed their willingness to use nuclear weapons with Israel. Not much else to report on, basically because hitting all the airfields left the enemy aircraft with nowhere to land, and it was GG for me. I might go back in to try my luck taking out a few SAM sites, or sinking the enemy SAG.

Other comments:

No points subtracted for losing planes or ships
The Mig-29As (and probably some other aircraft, but I was only able to observe it happening with the Mig-29As) all take off on their CAP mission, then try to land at the same time, and that airfield can't handle 100+ Migs trying to land at the same time, so a good number run out of fuel and crash. Best suggestion is to spread out the enemy aircraft to more airfields to prevent this issue, and also prevent aircraft from coming at the player in a steady stream, making them easily defeat-able.
If that Tu-22 strike was better coordinated, I guarantee I would have lost some more ships, maybe even a carrier. Instead, they came in small groups, allowing me to defeat the attack piecemeal.

I don't get to play often, so when I saw your scenario I thought I'd give it a go. Plays well but when I saved the game I can't reload because it says I need to unlock a new stand alone game pack. But I tried to buy it and could not find a price.[&:]

I enjoyed what I got through, lost a Burke to what I think were ICBM's but then I saved the game.[:@]

I'll restart it again after whatever I have to pay to get it unlocked becomes known.[;)]

Assorted notes

1. Adjusting WRA for antiballistic-capable SAM to fire not one missile per target, but two or three missiles per target works good to reduce losses to ASBMs.

2. I had some fun watching three nukes in a row malfunctioning against Vatican.

3. B-2 Spirit is not that stealthy I imagined it to be.

4. Early launch of ALCMs against airbases turned out to be ineffective with ALCMs being intercepted either by SAMs or by patrolling fighters.

5. Russian PAK-FA is a formidable opponent. Changing WRA on AMRAAMs to fire three missiles per target for agility 5 helps somewhat, but not much.
