Insight needed on understanding fighter escorts

Post by wga8888 »

I have Soviet fighter-bombers co-located with bombers in turn 4 of the campaign. My bombers can target enemy units within the fighter-bomber radius, but the FBs are not eligible to be selected. Air Doctrine looks to be in order. Is the radius the number of hexes for to target or to target + return trip (half of the radius)?

I have the same issue in my other game where I am the Germans. Fighters are easily in range of the target but will not fly. Flying bombers alone in the daytime proves bad idea.

Radius is the range to the target from the airbase.

There are several things that can prevent air sorties:

- Out of range (radius)
- Airbase on bad terrain, missions can be flown from clear and light woods hexes (manual say also from city, but I think this has been changed?
- Not enough airmiles left on the airgroup
- Set doctrine to 0% ready needed to make sure that's not blocking anything
- Check day/night mission setting
- Mission type may require it to be the first mission flown on the turn (doesn't affect fighters though)
- Check ammo and fuel, my Messerschmitts are constantly running dry :)

Might have missed something still?

Thanks, there is a lot of detail I miss.

I am aware of most of the list. But will set mission doctrine to 0% as I am choosing the Soviet FB groups during my turn. Can increase at end of turn when computer runs interception/ground support during opponents turn.
