Drums of War - No BigBaba
Soundtrack found here
Do you remember, 20 years ago,
back to "all you need is love"
Do you remember, how Janis used to swear,
the rings in her ears, and flowers in her hair
They all sang
oh-oh...
Don`t you raise that guns no more
oh-oh...
'cause we still hear the drums of war
They were haunted, in a dark cloud of fear
ordrin` all the young boys to war
it`s long ago now, but the memories still here,
of rings in their ears, and flowers in the hair
They all sang
oh-oh...
Don`t you raise that guns no more
oh-oh...
'cause we still hear the drums of war
Well, since one of my Witp:ae opponents vanished a few weeks back, I had some time on my hand, and when BigBaba asked for a game, and added a bit of flattery, it was ofc all set [:D]
As usual, I will play the Axis. There are no HRs per ce, but BigBaba has promised nothing overly gamey (HQ bombardments, USSR amph/aerial landings in -41 etc etc).
*edit* fixed weather
This is the "normal" grand campaign, not the shortened one.
Anyway, I need some sort of plan, so let us look at some facts;
1. I have NEVER managed to take LG in my games.
2. Killing off USSR units is kinda crucial.
3. Taking out USSR MP centres is nice.
4. So is capturing USSR production factories of various kinds.
5. BigBaba is no newcomer, so he should prove a challenge.
6. I really suck at -41 as the Axis.
7. After -43 the Axis cannot really act, from then on, they have to REact.
With these points in mind, I am thinking about not pushing LG. I will send panzers north for one or two turns in the vain hope that BigBaba (from now on BB) will spend some of his precious points on building up the LG defences. Then I will turn east, and only march infantry northwards, and at the same time, start building some fortifications for the upcoming insanity/madness/silliness aka blizzard.
In the south, I hope to bag as many units as possible, and push as far east as possible. And I am going to reread some rules about the blizzard, as a thought occurred to me last night at work. If it is doable, I am not sure, hence the reading of the rules...
As always, any comment is welcome, but please try to keep things civil towards each other. (Feel free to call me anything really, I do not care, but play nice with the other posters in here!).
Laughing at my mistakes is as always more than allowed as well [:D]
Ok, now I am off to start a war!

Turn 1
Overall
Not sure. I lacked 1mp in the south, and I completely misjudged in the north, but the factories in Minsk will stay put, and there are some units in various bags. But, I am sure when put to the test (aka you guys) even more flaws that I spotted myself will be revealed [:D].
Casualties
USSR : 96.000 troops, 2.036 guns, 1.080 AFVs, 2.927 AC.
Axis : 4.000 troops, 88 guns, 45 AFVs, 148 AC.
USSR units destroyed
18 Fortified Regions, 1 Separate Sapper Battalion, 1 NKVD Border Regiment, 1 PVO AA Regiment, 1 BM Howitzer Regiment, 1 AT Artillery Brigade, 1 Rifle Division, 1 Tank Division.
USSR units in pockets at the end of turn
91, this are the ones I have spotted, but it also include a few routed units as well as some HQs and AFs.

Turn 2
Overall
First of all congratulations are in order to Heinz Guderian, new commander of the OKH .
Then our valiant troops deserve credit for securing crossings across both the Daugava and the Berezina this turn. We are on the move people!
Not so good, but rather expected, is the fact that most of our pockets were broken, but we formed new ones. Comrade BigBaba was rude enough to invade Germany though, and some of his units added to the insult by retreating into two of my HQs this turn, displacing them [:@].
The USSR attempted one attack, and scored a held. Due to the reopened pockets, our number of attacks is not as high as desired, with a total of 49. The results are not good either, with 10 helds, 16 retreats, 10 routs, 4 shatters and 9 surrenders. The 1CV = 14CV in hasty combat is so fubar that I have no words...
Casualties
USSR : 312.000 troops, 4.138 guns, 1.939 AFVs, 3.161 AC.
Axis : 25.000 troops, 221 guns, 131 AFVs, 287 AC.
Seems the casualties did not reset from the previous turn...
USSR units destroyed
5 NKVD Border Regiments, 3 PVO AA Regiments, 8 Rifle Divisions, 1 Tank Division.
USSR units in pockets at the start of the turn
11.
USSR units in pockets at the end of the turn
92.

Just a heads up Terje: You need to look at your casualty screen first when opening your turn. This resets it to 0 for the turn, then you can start your combats. Otherwise it just keeps the running total from last turn and incorporates it into the current turns combat losses. Does that make sense?

Yup, understand what you say, however I have never had to do so before. And the problem is that that also resets the casualties taken/inflicted during the USSR turn.

Turn 3
Overall
Sometimes I wonder why I keep doing the same mistakes. This is one of these times. Once more I underestimate the MP of the USSR units, and the Lvov pocket is broken....again...Well, we reseal it, form some new small pockets and eliminate two large ones. And as expected, PzA Green was isolated, so they did not do that much this turn...
Spent all my points on reassigning two Pz Generals, opted not to place Manstein in command of a Pz Group this turn, and instead replace two weaker Pz Corps generals. Unlike most other Axis players, we take Riga on T3 [X(].
The USSR tried two attacks, and scored 2 helds, whiel our 66 attacks netted us 9 helds (pesky swamps!!!), 1 scouted, 26 retreats, 5 routs and 25 surrenders.
Casualties
USSR : 222.000 troops, 2.732 guns, 2.629 AFVs, 99 AC.
Axis : 23.000 troops, 111 guns, 100 AFVs, 49 AC.

Turn 4
Overall
I really really struggle with "offensive defences". As a result the "Lvov"-pocket is broken once more. My main problem with this is that it slows down the building of rails, and I am getting too far away from my railheads atm. Well, we reseal the pocket, but cannot really make a lot of attacks this turn, as the USSR units are not in striking distance for the most part. And my panzers are ofc low on fuel as well...
3 USSR attacks for a result of 2 helds and 1 retreat. We only made 19 attacks this turn, causing 3 helds, 7 retreats, 1 rout and 8 surrenders.
Casualties
USSR : 48.000 troops, 645 guns, 50 AFVs, 24 AC.
Axis : 23.000 troops, 125 guns, 115 AFVs, 29 AC.
The low USSR AC losses makes me wonder if the USSR airbases are being "remade".
