All American Over Nijmegen - Blown bridge

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

All American Over Nijmegen - Blown bridge

Post by vj531 »

Grave Heavy bridge has been blown.
No other crossing?
No bridge building units?

Have missed something?

Great if can take the bridge intact - But once blown! it looks like the game is up?

Stephen. Got your mail. There's that one (Mook) and the two western crossing points at Ravenstein. You should try to get both probably.

But, you should have really heavily bombarded the Grave defenders (with your mortar and anything else) before approaching too close to Grave bridge. If E company is a little ahead of the bombardment I stop it before it gets close enough to frighten the defenders and give it instead a direct fire order against the defenders. Keep it doing that, on slow rate, until the rest of the Bn catches up and is in place and until you can get the Bn mortar in range to bombard the defenders nearest the bridge. Then try to take it. I have to confess that I've had a 100% success rate like this, though took me a while to work it out. You should do this at Ravenstein and Mook now. If they blow those crossings then you will have to wait for a bridge (as they did in reality, though not for Grave, which was taken intact, by E company alone, which, in my humble experience, never works in the game!)and will certainly then suffer the historical fate.

Did you re-run - do you hold Grave bridge now?

They all look like they have a supply line - that's an achievement. Where are all the Axis forces? - when I play they are always infiltrating my supply lines, which are, inevitably, as wide open as yours. Are they all tied up at Grosbeek?

Held Grave!

Here is the latest situ.

I've ignored Grave garrison in the town, who are now a pain for Grenadier base unit.

As for Axis units you see what I see.....there are a few around Grosbeek but not too many. Nijmegen is tough

You playing on build 262, Stephen? I'm wondering if the changes to supply line interdiction are making it easier to supply units. Can't understand, otherwise, how all your Nijmegan units are in supply, and mine never are when in such close proximity to enemy. But I haven't tested build 262 yet.

Yes 262!

They were going out of supply a lot in Nijmegen town - I sent the 3Bn 505 up there specifically to open up some of the supply lines and worked.

Hurrah! Pity you're not playing From the Meuse to the Rhine, as you could now race up to Arnhem and bury all those paras....

There was a crossing in HTTR east of Grave near DZ O. It did not exist historically, nor could I find a reason for it's inclusion into the game - so I removed it.

Now try from the Meuse to the Rhine.

You'll find it different, I think - harder. Lots of Axis forces flooding down to Nijmegan from Arnhem. Be very interested how you get on with it.

OK that's the bugger.

I'm still looking forward to a two player on this one when the decks are clear?
