Can't divide unit

Post by slane_slith »

Anybody have any idea why i can't divide this unit? Shipped it all the way from Pearl to Brisbane to act as CAP and reserve for my carriers.

I see a Unit OOB button.. which suggests the unit is split up already..

There would be a button to click on next to oob to show where the fragments are. At least on my game playing stock it's there. This happened to me in Burma with a fighter sqn. but I just ignored it as this was the only time so far it's happened and I'm in Aug. of 43

Some units are not meant to be split up. Actually most in my experience.

The most useful ones are your recon planes which gives you a lot more bases to look at per turn.
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

In scenario one, the early war USN VF-Squadrons are set not to spit.

That would explain it then. I've been using only army units to cover my shore installations. This is the first time I've tried it with navy units.

Des, what is the reasoning for not allowing a split?

I think the reason Jeff, is the difference in tactical organization between the IJN and USN carrier air units. The basic USN unit was the Squadron of between 18 and 36 aircraft, whereas the basic IJN unit was the Daitai of 9 aircraft. So basically then the USN early war carrier groups consisted of 4 Squadrons, of VF, VS, VB, and VT.

But now with the IJN Carrier group it starts getting confusing, so here goes; The larger carriers embarked two Daitai in their 'fighter squadron' e.g 18 aircraft, but the Hiryu and Soryu had one and a half units (early in the war). Same with their dive-bomber and torpedo-bomber 'squadrons', but in the big carriers they carried three Daitai each e.g 27 aircraft. But again the Hiryu and Soryu carried less, with two Daitai e.g 18 aircraft.
