Multiplayer scene?

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

Multiplayer scene?

Post by jonny211 »

Hiya,

I've been looking this over and wondering if there's any activity on the multiplayer side? How is it handled - by Slitherine PBEM++ or not?

Cheers.

Hi

The games doesn't support PBEM (and it shouldn't as there are too many small movements to make it a practical approach). So games need to be played live although ther is an in-game save feature for games including MP.

Is that what you were asking?

The game works extremely well as live multiplayer, though the chat function in game is hopeless.

There is no multiplayer 'scene' in that the lobby is almost always empty, so games need to be pre-arranged.

What do you mean by "hopeless" fentum? I remember it being straightfoward. Hit a key, type your message, hit enter, message appears. The formatting is less than perfect but I'm not sure how it approaches "hopeless."

Just curious on your take.

You are right about the MP community though. It is out there, but MP games generally need to be arranged.

Hello mr snouffer,

I played a few PC games with chat options. They all have chat clearly separated from game mechanics text. They also have default text mechanisms such that you can't mess with your gameplay by inadvertently typing on keys which have in game effects.

CoH has chat text mixed in with game messages, so it is hard to follow. Also I find it easy to forget to press 'enter' every time I want to chat, so I frequently issue stupid commands in error.

There is a GIANT grey empty box on the right below the map. THAT is where chat should go. I put it in the wish list.

Thanks for the perspective. AtB is about the only PC game I play so I don't really know any better. [:)]

Hi Mr Snouffer,

No problem. Even Vassal and Zun Tsu and so on have better chat systems. CoH PC is a great core game but has less than great comms and lobby systems.

Nice moustache, by the way. [&o]

I'll look into changing the chat system, but I've played many multiplayer games and I've never had any problems with it, and I'm not quite sure exactly what it is people find difficult about it.
