Bomber coordination seems worse with patch

Post by crsutton »

Ark and I have both noticed a sharp decrease in bomber coordination after the installation of the patch in our campaign. Has anyone else experienced this? My Allied bombers are now primarily going in in small batches and getting creamed by CAP.

We are only a few turns in but it seems to be a pattern.

Which version are you using?
Beta version V1119b should have fixed a bug introduced with a previous beta.

I am on 1119e and its still definitely present. Nearly every group comes in by itself and most are not escorted.

I've hesitated to post on this since I'm still pretty rusty with AE and I thought it might just be me, but coordination in my game has been atrocious as well. We started a campaign with 1119a, but despite updates, nothing seems to have changed. Early war as Japan, I don't think I've seen a single completely coordinated raid yet involving more than two air groups. Even with just two or three groups, I'm still seeing frequent fragmentation from both sides.

We're playing 19e and I can assure you that Japanese bombing raids are well coordinated, with escorts, in 1941. Like so many times with the air models I think trying to isolate code behavior here from behind the player curtain is a fool's errand.

Well, in the earlier version gameplay and tests (results in the previous thread on the issue) showed the problem to be very obvious and predictable. I was a sceptic at first that it was not an intended change it was so prominent until MichaelM posted that the issue was not intended, but did exist and would be fixed.

Yes, but my post only relates to 19E, not 19A. What I responded to related to 19E as well. Am I missing something? Your cite referred to events from mid-October.

Sorry if I'm butting in. I was responding to the idea that it was hard to see the issue with coordination from a players point of view, as it could be a result of natural variation in gameplay caused by the mystery of 'the code.'

Well, I just saw the replay under version H and the results were the same. Much less coordination. My superforts go in in 10 plane groups. It is hard to measure the overall effect but is seems like I am losing a lot more bombers.

Plus, coordination has always been more an Allied problem as my air groups are much smaller than many of the Japanese. My bombers are in 16, 12 and 10 plane groups while Japan has some bomber groups with 30 or more. Not to mention that stupid 90 plane Frank group that seems to be leading every sweep[:@]

But perhaps my tried and trued tactics need to be revised now. Any suggestions. How do I take on a big base with 200 CAP?

Last time I strat bombed the HI I used up 10,000 PPs or so putting all my 4Es under one Bomber Command. It seemed to help quite a bit. I could pretty easily get raids with 350+ planes in one attack.

Hmmmmmm. Nice idea but I have hardly any PPs in the bank. I am always short of them.

So for some players (Quixote, Saros, crsutton) whatever the reason the coordination issues introduced in the first BETA has not been resolved despite the updates?

I was only able to run two turns last night, but I tried the same test format I ran last time. Didn't look as good as the official patch, but in two turns there were never more than 4 groups of bombers out 11 I think that came in uncoordinated. So not as bad as the original 1119a either. I'll obviously have to do more to really know for sure if anything is better. Looks like it's hard to move to this patch though without knowing for sure. Really too bad since there is SO much in my view necessary new stuff in it.

When I get my next turn i'm going to run it from a fresh install patched to 1119h. I was incrementally following the patches so perhaps something got screwy. The behavior i'm (still) seeing is exactly the same as everyone reported before Michaelm returned the air co-ordination to normal.
