Field Report notes

Post by freeboy »

I awoke from my afternoon nap to an urgent knock on the door.. somethings up sir..
I hurry into the kitchen of my field HQ, and am handed several notes and a hot cup of very black coffee... the notes have been hastily written.
"Settle down everyone", although it is soon evident that they are upset for a reason.... Multiple landing of Para infantry all around Nigmegen, "get me the troops nearest the highway bridges...
I order the rechecking of the demo charges and attempt to contact Model... nothing from him...
Within two hours the situation is very clear, Brits near Arnhem, US troops already entering Nigmegen...this looks too familier.. I rememrber the early reports from Normandy.. time to act is now...

I can hear the mortors shelling the enemies advance and order my hq to cross over the bridge .. Without reinforcments mytroops, a mix of a few veteran troops and some not so much, will not stand... "Damn it get me Model NOW" I roar.. momentarily losing my calm demeaner.

The sun sets on the first day...
Reports come in.. We are able to dig in at Nigmegen.. the enemy seems contenet to probe the parimeter...

Arnhem field report day one..
Strong British forces land to the Norhteast of the City.. advance elements stopped nearthe rail bridge...
As Instructed the Reinforcments are split into those to the south.. able to reinforce Nigmegen, or return to Arnhem and those directed into the fighting at Arnhem.
I immediately order the troops neerest the rail bridge to counterattack enemy probe on the Northern side... This should not be difficult as therre numbers look to be those of a forward element and our forces are much more numerous and rested, at least for now.. we must press every advantage...

the enemy stops showing up.. its nightfall day one..
ANd the counter attack fails at the rail bridge near Arnhem.. troops thinksits best to massively detour.. ok.. need to micro manage that, and one group that attacks is slaughtered...

out of the field of view is the Naval infantry group in the center on the Highway leading to Nijmegen ... sitting and waiting ..
and the troops on the East edge preparing for a morning assualt on the landing zones...

In the south I notice some new troops ariving .. they will be rushed into Nijmegen....

Field notes.. Northern
(Models HQ)

The enemy has suprised us, and Model remains scool but I know he is seething conflicting orders from higher up come in...
Endoven will fall, and the very real risk of the Chills Division being isolated...
The debate at HQ(model) is weather to release the panzers to reinforce the Troops near NJ(Nijmegen) or keep them in Arnhem area...
The night will tell how well the enemy is able to advance, and if they are stopped well away from the main highway bridges, I believe the debate will be over and orders to move south issued...
The Weather has not improved as forecasted.. that is some good news..
Players note.. dissappointingwe cannot do all three zones in one game..I changed weather to poorer.. orders delay from normal to realistic...

Above note that just out of the field of view are elements of the afformentioned panzer group.... split between both bridges and on each side of the river...
Reinforcemtns are pooring in..
no news from Eindohven...
( note historical reinforcmetns are on.. so the 30 corps will be joining the party soonest ...)
the recent southern reinforcments are ordered to attack the US landing sites to the southeast of Ng

Hey Freeboy,

Are you playing with order delay? I noticed you micro nearly all your units (and are not issuing commands to battalions and regiments)..

yea.. I bumped order delay up to realist from normal.. I seem to have difficutlies with units actually doing what I want without issuing to the units directly

Seems like if you don't issue orders to each company they leave a gap that the AI always finds.

Issuing orders to each company seems like the only way to a seamless defense.
