[REL] German symbols + GUI Mod v1.1 (Landser Edition)

Post by Geyerfalck »

v1.1 is available. Content :
- German symbols on 76x76 counters (unit detail only)
- National colors updated for all countries

Main GUI modifications :
- Background pics added on nearly all menus
- Combat, movement, train, sea transport symbols + strokes reworked.

Strokes : all are thinner, green color in place of pink on selected unit(s), red-white dotted colors for commanding HQ.

Combat : various pics in a red circle, routed symbol reworked.

Movement : now displayed in a thinner green circle.

Advice : save your Data directory before applying this GUI mod.

The "Landser" Edition does NOT modify both unit symbols on map (NATO symbols) and Admin, Info & Map buttons, since these features are provided with "Kommandeur" Edition.

I know I would use these. Loved them in Longest Day and had a mod for them in TOAW. Now have you checked to see if they change when the div changes ie mech to pnz, jager to inf etc?

It's a little disconcerting to see these symbols on Soviet counters, tbh. I suspect us Red Army fanboys are looking for something else.

Thx guys for the first feedback, it seems I'll keep at it !

Well, regarding the Soviet counters, I'm afraid I can't do anything
to differentiate the German symbols from the Soviet ones : this is
due to the implementation path chosen by the developers. Please don't
forget I have to work with a given basis of work. This is for the technical
difficulties.

Please note that the tactical symbols would obviously look better in white than in black.
At first I wanted to display the simplified symbols in white (as shown on vehicles for example).
I gave a promising try but here, General "Alpha Channel" takes his toll. We
have unit types, unit sizes & unit colors to take into account. Sometimes I
added tactical data on each category until the result was ok.

I already noticed some limitations like : Corps level is sometimes an HQ, or a fighting unit so I chose to keep the HQ symbol (GKdo for Gruppenkommando)since both aren't differentiated ingame, PanzerGruppe/Armee can't display the Panzer symbol, etc...

Even with the limitations, these are very nice and would definitely be a pleasure to use. Wish I could help. Thanks for the effort.

Thx.
I think I will propose 2 sets :
1) the first with 76x76 counters only so you can keep the NATO symbols on map and get the German symbols only in unit detail (right panel, on click). Optional feature : stock colors.
2) the second one with all German symbols (map included). Optional feature : stock colors.

The good news is that the first one is nearly completed (only some minor tuning to be done).
The second one will require more time as I have to detail all counter sets to deal with zoom scales, as well as finding the right trick to get formation colors on map).

What do you guys think ?

These look fantastic. I would certainly be interested in using them, the only question that I have is are you able to colour code the formations as we have now?

Certainly. I'm trying various options.
Hereafter a sample (formation color = bright red) :

Formation color in lower left corner seems to be the best one I found so far.

I agree the first one does look the better of the two, keep it up. I have a game called Time of Wrath that someone modded both german & allied unit symbols on & imo it did make the game more enjoyable & fun to play (especially as at the time I had no idea which was which) thanks for the miracle that is google I now do.
