Victory In Europe Day Parade

Post by Bamilus »

Not sure if this has been posted or if anyone has seen it. It's the full length (a little over an hour) video of the Victory in Europe (Eastern European date) Day Parade in Russia. This was a cool parade because for the first time troops from the United States, France, Poland, UK, and other countries were able to participate. Under the video are options to download it, also. The Wikipedia page has some more info:

One of the highlights. [:)]

I also liked the WW2 Soviet armour: T-34s and SU-100s.

The Bearskins are a copy of those worn by the French Imperial Guard at Waterloo. There the British Foot Guards delivered the Coup de Grace to the Old Guard which started the Rout of the French Army.

The Guardsmen are from 1st Battalion Welsh Guards. A few months ago they were involved in heavy fighting in Afghanistan, where their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Rupert Thorneloe, was killed in action.

The five regiments of Foot Guards have uniforms with various distinguishing features. One means of identification is to observe the spacing of the buttons on the tunic. The Welsh Guards have buttons arranged in groups of five.

Whoops. My eyesight is not what it was; I thought the picture from the parade showed Irish Guardsmen as I thought the buttons were groups of four and the plume in the bearskin was white and blue - thanks for the clarification Redcoat.

I should have used another photo. It does make him look like a sack of potatoes. He looked much better in the video.
