[Release]Star Wars Mod- ROTS Update!

Post by lordxorn »

May 15,2012- I have been reminded by a fan, thank you!, that my original links were down. I changed servers and forgot to upload to the new ones, so now that is fixed and the Star Mod for ROTS is available for download again.

I know it has been about 6 months since my last update, and truthfully I got swamped with all the settings, errors etc. On top of that my personal life has been very busy with me taking 5 college courses a semester. I am looking at a much lighter load this summer, and I am currently in between semesters. So guys I will do my best to bring the wonderful SW character to Legends.

I will update with new images as work progresses. Also I cannot locate the vanilla DW SW mod, if there some who still would like it let me know. I will see if I can dig up some old drives that might have it on there.

Nov. 26th, 2011 **Work has started for the Legends Update for this mod. Expect to be finished well before Xmas.**

Star Wars Mod:Return of the Shakturi Updated January 14th, 2011
Jan 14th, 2010 **Added Flagshapes
Dec 28th, 2010 **Added Support for new ROTS expansion plus many more..

Legends is the latest Distant Worlds expansion that adds major improvements to the series, most notably the Character system. Which lends itself perfectly to the Star Wars universe, and also adds one of the best feature of the older Lucas Arts strategy game Rebellion. Now you can have the iconic legends from Star Wars original trilogy lead your Rebellion from a ragtag group of seperatist, to a well organized military capable of standing toe to toe with the mighty Empire.

Special thanks to Igard, 2guncohen, and tjhkkr for all the support and contributions like images, system names, and links to resources.

With the Rice of the Shakturi expansion came some major updates to the Star Wars mod:
  • Fighters and Bombers are properly supported! YAY!
  • Fixed Scaling- Destroyers are no longer larger then Cruiser's, etc..
  • Racial Bias Support- The Empire really hates the Rebellion and vice versa.
  • Custom Dialog for both races
  • Rebel and Empire Flags
  • More Star Wars ship names for both sides
  • Updated Troop Images
  • And of course the Deathstar as the Planetdestroyer (naturally [:D])

Star Wars Mod Return of the Shakturi Download
Click Here!

Installation:
If you installed your copy of DW:ROTS in the default directory which is c:\Matrix Games\Distant Worlds\ then all you have to do is unzip this RAR and it will automatically install the mod and the Deathstar and custom Rebel and Empire flags. Don't worry I included back up copies of the original for you. [;)].

If you installed the game to a custom location then extract the RAR and copy the contents of the RAR customization folder to your DW customization folder. Also copy the planetdestroyer.png to the /Distant Worlds/images/units/ships/other folder overwriting the image there. (Back is provided already, so need to create one yourself.)

Next launch the game and Select Theme and the side you wish to play. Once the theme loads and you hear the iconic Star Wars music you are ready to play and enjoy!

Custom Flagshapes
This little mod will add the custom Rebel and Empire flag shapes in game, replacing two of the stock images. The Star Wars flag shapes will be available during race customization including the ability to change the colors. For your convenience I have included the stock flagshapes, to restore simply rename the 14 and 15 flag to something like flag14_STARwars.wmf, etc and rename the flag14Original.wmf to flag14.wmf.

Beam Effects,
I have altered the weapon effects to better mimic the stars universe, however due to the DW system I could not simply make the Empire use green, and the rebels red. However the weapon effects were altered in a way to help increase enjoyment of the DW by the player in the following ways,
1.) The bigger the beam the more powerful.
2.) The beams are also color coded.
3.) Their size has been reduced immensly to give them the illusion of more velocity and distract less from the rest of the outstanding graphics in this game.
Star Wars Weapon Mod (Highly Recommended, remember to back up original weapons folder.)

Please feel free to PM any bugs or graphical errors you find, as well as any comments. [:)]

**The weapons mod will write over your default beam images, create a backup if you would like to switch back later.**

Awesome. I will be watching this with interest! For the stations, try looking for Golan platforms. Technically they are defence platforms, but there are three of them so it might work for small, medium, and large stations.

Well, that's a teaser if ever I saw one!

Just a shame there are no fighters in DW. Safe to say, it's only a matter of time untill they get included in an expansion. Fingers crossed.

In the mean time, can't wait to start building Star Destroyers and enforcing a bit of good old imperial order on the galaxy.

MISSION: Exact toll on local mining operations for refusal to pay Empire Tax.

I am happy to report that the mining is no longer in operation, and all other suspects caught at the scene have been brought to justice. I believe the Beta Bootis sector will brook no further rebellious actions like throwing a "Tea Party".

I have search for Golan defensive platforms, and can't seem to find any good 3d models, or at least top down views. So one area I am really drawing a blank on Star Wars items are for the stations. As far as ship wise, I am almost done with all the classes. One ship class I am drawing a blank is the construction class for the Imperials. I am thinking about just using the droid ship for a construction ship.

Those smaller ones look like kilrathi ships.

That comparison chart is awesome, the Golan platforms are perfect for the small-large spaceports, nice find.

I am still looking for exploration ship, resupply ship, gasmining ship & station, resort base, mining ship & station. Then the units will all be done. [:D]

Nice looking Victory Star Destroyer there. I assume you plan to add some of the other maintstays of the SW games, like the ISD, Correlian Corvette, and Carrack Light Cruiser as well?

Yes, one of the challenges I faced when picking what mainstays to use, was the low number of ship types in regards to the military side for the Imperials.

So right now as it stands
Escort = Venator Class
Frigate= Interdictor Class -This one would rock with Hyperdeny [:D]
Destroyer= Victory Class
Cruiser= ISD
Capital= Super Star Destroyer Executer Class
Troop Transport = I forget the model but the standard one used by the Imps.
Passenger= Corellian Corvette (Will be a Rebel Escort)
Construction= Droid Base Ship
Colony= The Rebel Transport
Spaceports= Golan Platforms

These are all pretty much done.

Of course if there are calls for a different ship I would love to hear them and maybe relase them on a individual basis so you can alter to your liking. [:D]

Another teaser screenshot to accompany to Star Wars Mod update.

I am currently 90% done with all the in game images. What is left is some other race editing for the Galactic Empire including a flag. I have included music, system names, ships, it is turning out to be an epic mod. Especially when you first switch Themes to Star Wars, and the Main Title music comes on. [:D]

Are you able to propose a specific list of ships names for this  theme? The Imperials like them nasty [:D]
