Question re Auto-Convoy

Post by Connfire »

OK, here's the situation:

I'm playing vs. the AI in the 1922 Scenerio as the Allies, though in my campaign only the USA is fighting Japan. Its now late February 1924. My ground forces are heavily committed in Formosa - I'm currently laying siege to Taichu, with over a quarter million troops on each side facing off. The Japanese control Taichu and Taipei, while I control Takao and Tainan.

For some reason, and this has never happened in this game before, the computer is automatically sending supplies to my troops sieging Taichu, using AKs on Computer Control from Manila. Granted, with all the combat going on, I do have ground units that need supply there. But its irritating that the computer is comandeering ships out of Manila, about every other day, and sending them all alone and without escort through sub-infested waters. About a dozen computer controlled AKs have left Manila, all in seperate single-ship task forces, and at least 1 has been torpedoed. I even spotted 1 AK with a Rear Admiral on board!

This is nuts. None of the AKs in Manila are set for auto convoy. I don't control Taichu, so it is obviously not set for auto convoy. Why did this suddenly start happening? How do I stop it?

Japanese agents have hijacked your freighters [;)] or a bug I'm guessing. You should put this in the tech support section maybe someone will have an answer.

Come to think of it, the engine rooms do have a lot of parts that say "Made in Japan". [:)]

For what its worth, the AI unexpectedly sprang to life again, just before I was ready to declare it dead and throw in the towel, at the beginning of February 1924. It is still giving me quite a bit of naval combat. I'm in March now, and from the sighting reports I'm getting I don't think the Japanese Navy is done with me yet. I don't know if it had anything to do with the game time, or if I hit a trigger by invading Taichu. The ship hijackings also started happening in February of '24, but if that's the price of a more agressive AI I'm all for it.

I'm hoping if I just take Taichu it will stop, but there's over 270,000 Japanese troops defending it so this may take awhile. In the meantime, loaded AKs continue to depart from Manila, and I keep turning them around at Corregidor - its just an annoyance at this point. About 5 AKs did make it to Taichu, carrying about 17,250 supplies, so I don't think my troops will be starving anytime soon.

I'd say it would take along time to take the city. Do you have alot of guns and tanks on this front?

Last combat at Taichu (March 7, 1924):

Ground combat at Taichu

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 253876 troops, 998 guns, 24 vehicles
Defending force 272262 troops, 1816 guns, 197 vehicles

Allied ground losses:
43 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Taichu

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 255905 troops, 1801 guns, 45 vehicles
Defending force 281517 troops, 1000 guns, 24 vehicles

Japanese ground losses:
488 casualties reported

I also have 4 convoys containing a total of 5 more divisions from the West Coast heading that way, the first should be at Takao within a week, the rest about 3-4 weeks. 5 old BBs from Wenchow bombard every 2-3 days. The rest of my fleet has been heavily engaged with the Japanese Navy off Aparri and the surrounding area for most of February and the 1st week of March. Both US and IJN subs are swarming all around Formosa, shooting at anything that moves. Which is why I have a large ASW TF out of Wenchow that tries to smother any IJN SS that's in the way of my other TFs. Quite a mix-up going on over there! [8D]
