Ancient Historical Documents Anyone?
Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone still had some user made files on strategy and gameplay?
IIRC, the Gamers Net site used to have articles on the 10 Combat Rounds, managing the air war and other great info that the manual did not cover (at least not in detail).
I think some of Matrix' staff were the authors of some but I can't remember that far back.
I would also like to know if that info, if available, would still be applicable with TOAW III?

RE: Ancient Historical Documents Anyone?
You can check here, in the Articles section of the TOAW Zone site (formerly WarfareHQ). There's the 10 combat rounds article you've mentioned and many others you may find of interest. Most of that information should be still pretty up to date as the principles upon which the engine is based have not been altered that much. I haven't checked closely though, so don't trust me blindly on this.ORIGINAL: JReb

You should also put to profit the tutorial scenarios and their related documents, as they'll put you up to date with the latest developments/improvements brought in by TOAW III.
Cheers,

Yeah, that was me. Unfortunately, after IEntertainment bought The Gamers Net, they also managed to wipe out our backups of the site, which lost a LOT of the TOAW content we'd accumulated. I'm sure much of it is duplicated elsewhere, but I regret that I no longer have it myself.
Looks like the TOAW Zone is a good source these days.

- Erik

Cyber sentimentalism Erik? Cool. I found myself waxing lyrical about the old 8 bit game 'Wizards Crown' the other night and my mate dragged his old C64 out and we played until dawn - fantastic stuff. Have been hunting down old TOAW sites all day.

I loved that game! Keith and I had a good discussion about that one Origins - a real classic, IMHO.

RE: Ancient Historical Documents Anyone?
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will be checking these sites and refreshing my TOAW skills.
I saw that the number of combat rounds can be modified by the scenarion designer so I guess the 10 rounds discussion will change to the advantages of 5 rounds or some other value.
Matrix, thanks again. You guys own the game portion of my hard drive.[&o]

I could be wrong- but I think this is a misunderstanding. The feature you're describing merely limits how long units will stick at a particular attack. The turn is still divided into 10 10% blocks.

RE: Ancient Historical Documents Anyone?
The reason this was implemented was because of large scenarios, and complaints about how attacks in one region (Finland?) might prevent your main trhrust from happening. If it's set to 3 rounds per turn, you can be fairly sure that you'll get 3+ groups of attacks, instead of only 1 with COW. You need to read the manual about this feature because it's NOT saying that combat will break at rounds 4, 7 and 10.ORIGINAL: golden delicious

RE: Ancient Historical Documents Anyone?
I have five zip files containing five issues of what appears to be a newsletter put out by a Benny Wahlberg. It's about seven megabytes all told. My personal web space is a bit short on space now but I have Gmail and can email to an address. Please post or PM if you can host them. They are from 1999 so probably are of limited usefulness, but you never know.
Also several forum captures from 2000 as well. Heck, I save everything [;)]
Here's a file list. Remember these date from 1999 to 2003.

Thanks gd for clearing that up. I need to take a longer, more in-depth look at the changes before diving back in.
temple and coralsaw,
Thanks for both of your input. I guess its time to start making a notebook on this game again and these sites helps tremendously. (wife rolls eyes, wondering what happened to the man she married![:D])
Maybe we can have some of this info posted on a sticky thread at the top? This seems like something that will be of value for those of us who haven't played in awhile. Just thinking out loud.

If some one can either tell me a new location (the one listed above is gone) or can send em the file(s) I will try to set up a way to host them.
