For those that are looking for a Campaign experience

Post by Numdydar »

This game is from a single programmer who still works full time.

The Campaign North Africa is just a single scenario of a planned 102 covering all of Europe. There are about 80+ scenarios done so far. The CNA Scenario starts in 1940 and runs to 1943. It has air, naval, and ground units.

While I have played the game, I have not played this scenario fully yet. But I suggest anyone interested, cough Warsprite, to check it out.

I like this game too...but it isn't mod-friendly.

I don't think WW2 Europe is even in the same class.
Other than the obvious turn based vs WEGO, Desert War initial release was virtually bug free.
It was playable off the start. I appreciate this when buying a new release.
WW2 is still WIP but I like his dedication to the game.

Again, don't get me wrong. I have and like both titles.
WW2 for the old school turn based action and Desert War for the excellent WEGO system.

I do not know the last time you played WWII, but I've been playing under 1.09 and have not experienced any issues at all.

I agree WEGO is nice. Although TAoW IV has a nice system in place for a turn based game. It also has a CNA game included with it starting at several different dates.[:)]

If somethings happened to Ron the text scenario files for WW2 europe could never be released.

Very odd. I emailed him about it and will let you know what I find out.

There is still TOAW IV though. Which I would consider in the same class.

Oh, I have TOAW IV, that's not the point.
Have an ancient Schwerpunkt game and was kinda looking at the new one.

I just hate to see a respected, albeit not well-known, developer go out of business. More hurtful is that he made WWII TBS. (Yeah, I know WEGO's all the rage now, but I'm old-school, PLUS- I had to live through that RTS period when TBS was at its least productive. [thank God for people like Matrix, Schwerpunkt, and Battlefront])

I'll be very interested to know what you find out w/ the email.

I know, right? Had a lot of interest in it.
Maybe he'll get it further along and put it up on a new site?

Yes, thank you. Was mostly concerned about him.

Am downloading 1.0.10, which gives the impression of a "release" version, but still waiting on that editor. Not as if I have the UI mastered or anything [;)]

OT, I know, but I would really like to know, what you think about Schwerpunkt.
I looked for years to that title and always thought about the actual state and the low forum activity there.
So: Is the new version worth a serious look?
Thanks for answers.[:)].

I've had it for about a year, and I've only played three scenarios. What keeps me from really diving in is the UI and map scrolling, there's a lot of clicking to get around and the map scrolling while better than before is still wonky, meaning slow scrolling and zooming.I'm really hoping for some ease of use features to be added and the map scrolling improved.

I bought the game a few years back. I couldn't get it to install. I'm a computer numpty and can't be mucking about with stuff I don't understand. I like a game to be - insert a disc (or download) and away you go. I can't recall whether this was a disc or download but either way, it wouldn't work. I really wanted the game but all the drama that went with trying to get it on my computer was way above my level of understanding. Ron was great, wonderful customer service and very understanding. He gave me a full refund with no quibbles.

A real shame though.....

Ron is a great guy. But his games are buggy and lacking in a lot of area's. I would not recommend it. I also had the previous titles RGW and AGW. I think AGW was the best, but still not really playable as a serious wargame. WWIIiE was a step backwards in many respects.

FWIW I don't think there has been any PC game on the North African subject better than the old Atomic/AH Operation Crusader game. Hell, I would jump at the chance to buy an updated version of that game, same for all the titles in that series.

Actually all those old Atomic/AH games really need is updated graphics. I wonder why Matrix doesn't do that? I reckon they would sell lots.
