[SOLVED] How can I stop my escorts from attacking Giant Kaltors?

Post by starmonkey »

Edit: It's the engagement stance - I missed that little button! The clue was:

(No mission)(Engage system targets)

So I changed that to (Engage nearby targets). Lets see how that goes.

---

Playing pre-warp, I've got 2 escort ships with warp bubble generators.

In my system, there are 2 Giant Kaltors sitting on the outside, in an asteroid field.

My 2 escorts continuously decide to attack them, and I've tried everything to stop them:

1) Put them in a fleet. Set fleet to defend posture for home base only (which is far away from the Kaltors).
2) Automation off. Automation on. They still have a mind of their own.
3) Removed them from a fleet. Sent them to a moon on the other side of the system. Nope!

Nothing I do seems to change these escorts from jumping over to the Kaltors and getting smashed.

Why is that? What am I missing here? At the moment I have to continuously stop them and turn them back, which is obviously tiring.

I can't seem to assign a merc mission to destroy the Kaltors, so for now I'm building more escorts to try and take them out.

Help appreciated!

Use the editor and delete the Kaltors.

^^^ I second the 2nd post's suggestion!

In most of my games I have ZERO space critters. I really really hate them and just turn them off.

My all time most hated space critter is Silvermist... It simply forces me to always have to research Ion guns first.

2) Automation off. Automation on. They still have a mind of their own.

Try setting the manual stance in options (escape, options and empire options).

First manual setting, Patrol, set to 'nearby targets' and the fourth one, Other, to 'when attacked'.

I'm not a huge fan of silvermists either. Is there any way to disable them (via modding) so they never show up?

Not sure if Silvermist are an event/disaster or a space creature.
But since they are listed under Space creatures under the Galactopedia i think they are.

Space creatures you can set to None when you start a new game.

Nope. The Silver Mist is not a space creature, there an event/disaster, have asked many, many times for them to be moved to space creatures but to no avail.

I used to always turn creatures off. Lately I've had them cranked to maximum since I tend to tone down the pirates for my games. I actually enjoy them in my games now...

Silvermist are a pain, but not bad when handled with the right fleets. A fleet of carriers with 100+ fighters and some backup support from dedicated ion-cannon ships generally takes care of them pretty quick. Had one game where they ran rampant for a couple game decades (in enemy territory. ha!) - they grew and multiplied into several dozen. I managed to eliminate them all with a single fleet with only minor damage. (May have lost a ship or two - can't remember now)

Hmmm.. just realized something while typing this. In my latest Youtube LP the Silvermist didn't show up at all. Interesting...

Anyway, I think the OP question had been answered so I'll shut up now.. [:D]

Space Creatures are annoying special the Sand slugs they allways reappear at Spice worlds.
But Space creatures are pretty harmless even the Silvermist compared to a strong pirate clan you refuse to pay.

A Silvermist is piece of cake if you got Carrier, even 2-3 450 size carrier can take care of them.

Silvermists seem to show up in every single one of my games and they're nearly impossible to completely eradicate. Just when I kill one or two of them with my assault fleet and move it on to more important missions, another one pops up in a nearby system and I have to recall my fleet to handle it, because smaller fleets simply cant cope.

So instead of using my assault fleet for useful things that I really want, I'm continually playing whack-a-mole with silver mists. It's very annoying because they seem to be extremely good at hiding and you can never be sure that you got them all. I find the whole thing more frustrating than interesting and I'd love to be able to just disable them.

@lucian build a fleet of about 8 ships with no shields and tons of armor with only EMP weapons. These will be your ghost busters. Just ruthlessly hunt down every silvermist you can find with these guys, it's a piece of cake.

From the few times I have fought or observed them, the silvermist appears to "patrol" an area of a sector or a bit more.

What I did in my serious war with them, was to send a couple of silvermist buster fleets to the area, and park small ships in every single system to detect them. A good way to discover what the silvermist patrol area is, is to notice areas where there are no large colonies, and the colony locations there tend to be available every now and then :)

As for the number of carriers needed, I think it depends a bit on how many AI colonies have been fed to them.

+1

Yes, they do seem to confine themselves to a certain area which is handy.

Nice tip about parking ships throughout the area. Sounds like a great way to sniff them out. [8D]
