This is the second major comment from Japan in the last few weeks about the role in WWII to justify their actions.

Yes I've seen a few remarks over the past year or so as a reflection of this "restoration" party movement. As the article says, given the relatively high tensions between Japan and China over the south seas islands, this is not a good thing... It was hard enough to get Japan to "officially" recognize the concept of comfort women and condemn it long after it happened, to now see them step away from that condemnation. Nationalism has its place, but it can quickly go beyond what is needed or healthy.

Unfortunately, Japan still has a strong element of hard core nationalists. If you have ever visited Japan you have probably seen these black buses and vans driving around Tokyo playing loud music which is meant to inspire people to again revere the Emperor and drive out the foreigners. They will often park in front of train stations and do the same thing. The Korean embassy is a favorite target. One such bus drove around it for an hour blaring loud music. Despite this, the vast majority of the population just ignore them.

I thought things had changed in Japan after PM Abe was finally fired.

She did.

And the Fraulein can't just Val - or Stuka - a politician for saying something stupid. There's not enough AV support on the planet to maintain the operation tempo to get the job done.

Hey Doc,

Just because one misguided leader in the country pops off with some crazy, doesn't mean the country is heading one way or another. It happens in America all the time. I just chalk it up to attention getting and sensationalism. (which the media thrives on)

Just my opinion of course....for what it's worth
I'd rather be lucky than good.
