OT - Emperor movie

I saw the trailer today; looks interesting, or at the very least, looks like a serious effort to present Japan's early post war destruction
That said, Tommy Lee Jones looks like "Tommy Lee Jones" instead of Gen MacArthur

Sorry, but Gregory Peck is no longer with us.

And of course there has to be a love story in it... history by Hollywood, so sad!

Well, MacArthur in love with himself. Pretty standard fare. Is there another love story *in addition to* that one? [;)]
RE: OT - Emperor movie
The clip alludes to it, American Officer, Japanese woman.... and you are right, MacArthur with himself....if it is portrayed accurately (but then again this is a movie after all!).ORIGINAL: Chickenboy

Bonner Fellers, apparently the main protagonist in the movie, is an interesting figure from WWII.
Gen'l Eisenhower despised him, from the time when they served together under MacArthur. Fellers was the US Military Attache in Egypt during Rommel's successful campaigns. The Germans had broken the code that Fellers was using to send dispatches back to the War Department. It was the main source of German intelligence about British intentions and operations in North Africa.

Gregory Peck was a great MacArthur
I will definitively see the movie; although I understand it will be full of Hollywood's "war epic" crap, just by looking at some of the scenes, they have taken the effort (and the $$$) to make a convincing 1945's Japan
For more on "Mac", also check "American Caesar"

Funny, but I thought that the film's title was referring to the way MacArthur thought about his own post-war position...

Love stories can be great in such movies if they are placed into history. It is after all about the people back then.
It is only problematic if history is wraped around a love story or the love story dominates that history movie. That is at least my opinion.

Funny, I assume it referred to Mac's prewar position in the Philippines.

romance in a war movie? [>:][>:][:-]
I only like romance if it is done like in "Rambo II":
brief, little to no dialogue and the most important one: the girl needs to die rather quickly and violently, so that the "hero" can seek his revenge! [;)]

Is Ben Affleck in it? He's a really good actor. Liked him in that thing he did a few years back...what was it called again?

Yes, that's the ticket! It also helps if the female love interest is a real hottie too!
