Changing LCU's HQ

Post by shortty »

I've always been annoyed with Land Combat Units auto-magically changing their HQ on me. For example, I'll have some US division happily assigned to "Central Pacific" then it will change its HQ to (say) 6th army. Sometimes I change its HQ back and it stays there but other times it will just auto-magically change to the wrong one the next turn.

Can anyone shed some light on when/why LCUs change their HQ? A list of what LCUs change and when would help. A way to make them stay in the HQ I assigned would be better.

I don't know of a list of what LCUs change to, but want to make an observation.

If you have an LCU assigned to 6th Army its first line commander after the base commander would be the 6th Army Air Leader who presumably would have a better land rating than the Cent Pac Air Leader. Likewise with the 6th Army HQ leader versus Cent Pac HQ leader.

However, 6th Army hcain of command goes to SW Pac rather than Cent Pac, and as a joint command under Army control you'd again presumably have better land leaders than Cent Pac.

Its my belief that LCUs and bases should be assigned to the lowest HQ avaialble. Every time a leader fails his aggressiveness check command moves up the line. The more leaders you have up the line the less chance you have of running out and having the default combat leadership rating assigned.

There is such a list in the "Update.pdf" file, but it is clearly out of date. (I suspect it belongs to Version 2.3)
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

I haven't played or looked at the data in quite a while, but I do recall that several LCU slots are hard coded to switch to specific HQ's at set times.
Never ever ever ever let a day pass without remembering that we are fighting a war for our survival. God bless our troops.

Not only are there some hard wired changes, the computer is pretty adept at "fixing" your "errors", namely if you have the audacity of assigning an Army Division to Cent Pac HQ. This type of blasphemy is simply not tolerated by the computer.

I remember one time where i tried to put all the CVE air groups on one type of CVE and have the other types be the replenishment CVEs so I could more easily and quickly make an escort or replenishment CVE TF. Well that lasted about 10 microseconds until i loaded the game and it "fixed" the air groups!!!

Still playing PacWar (but no so much anymore)...
