The Red Cloud

Post by Kull »

So it's December 8th and all the Japanese "Day 2" dispositions have been completed and you hit the "end turn" button...and on the morning of December 9th, it's the "never-to-be-seen-again" vision of the maximum strength "Red Cloud of Ships" plying the seas around the Home Islands. In this graphic alone there's over 200 individual TFs plus another 13 ports that are maxed out with TFs (so god knows, maybe another 50 or so in there?) And almost none of these are escorted - it's enough to bring tears to the eyes of an Allied Submarine Commander!

Thanks for posting this, Kull.  As an APO (Allied player only), I've never seen a sight quite like that before.  It's Manila region on December 8 on steroids!

I shall not rest, until I can provide the same screen with all green TFs.

To use a bad analogy, it's like rats jumping ship!

As a former AFO, I was not prepared for the explosion of Red Confetti on 12/9! Worth noting that most of those TFs are 4-5 ships or more, and they all have legitimate missions. At least half of the TFs are on their way to concentrate in the Resource Ports recommended in Damien's "Japanese Economy" primer. I spent a lot of time setting up the convoy system between the US and Australia, but it's a pale shadow of the complexity inherent in Damien's system.

Mine looks like that also. Shame you can't just say you want x number of Ehime in Osaka, and y number of Aden's in Ominato to start the game with.

There is tremendous amount of work that goes into the the first few turns for the Japanese player, ships are just all over the place.

If the screen did'nt look like this at the start of the game I'd be worried. [:D]

I got a bit fed-up doing the turn one TF setup again and again with each restart (due to big patches or new mod versions). So I have modded a "Quickstart scenario". It has dozens of TFs already created and filled with ships and destination set according to my usual opening moves. I send most Japanese merchies to Tokyo for sorting out, a few stay in port intended for conversion on the spot. Allied merchies are set to concentrate on a few central ports i.e Manila, Surabaya, Sydney, Karachi and Frisco. Warships near the combat zone are exempt and since it is a Dec 8th scenario, having Allied ships in TFs at scenario start is ok. Saves hundreds of clicks on turn one. If someone is interested, pm me.

Most of those ships will be hulks by December 1944. One way or another. [:D]

Most of them are hulks on December 7, 1941 too. Only difference is they aren't all 1-way submarines yet. [;)]

And this is what I'm trying to achieve against the US and CW Navies every turn.....
