1,10 solo US AAR
1,10 solo US AAR
Now that patch 1.10 is out I'm going to try a limited AAR from the US perspective. I'll play all the Allies, but will focus reporting on US moves. Will comment on other nations as needed.
It's now Dec 24 '41
The Japanese opened the war historically, with the exception of an early successful assaults on Guadalcanal and Midway. They failed rather seriously in their attack on Pearl, with only some cruisers sunk and several battleships seriously damaged, but none sunk. They did not find my carriers, which were out on maneuvers.
Situation bleak in the Philippines, Malaya, Netherlands East Indies, and throughout the many island groups of the Pacific, with Japanese advancing everythwere.
The US is in shock, is regrouping, and trying to figure out what it can do early on to hurt the Japanese. Once the ancient carrier Langley has been escorted out of the combat zone, the miniscule Asiatic Fleet will have to see how it can cooperate with the Dutch and British to hinder the Japanese.

RE: 1,10 solo US AAR
Other than escaping disaster at Pearl, the only success so far in the war is the sub campaign against enemy shipping. I'm eager to see if the Japanese AI is better in revision 1.10 at ASW and maintaining a transport fleet.

Watching with interest.
What are your criteria for abandoning this game and the AAR?
What are your criteria for abandoning this game and the AAR?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction
RE: 1,10 solo US AAR
Are you referring this AAR or the one in the past?
The past: there were elements of the game that I didn't like, such as unlimited range and duration of naval operations.
With that fixed, I want to give it another try now. What would make me abandon this AAR? first you have to understand how I play. I rarely sit down and play 10-20 turns at a stretch. I'll play a country in a given turn. Then save. Then maybe play the next country in that turn the next day, or a complete turn. Whatever I feel like. I do the AARs to maintain my own sense of continuity in the game and hopefully to encourage others to play it. If I find I'm not enjoying it or lose interest, I'll quit.

The Japanese made a serious mistake in an attempt to revisit the raid on Pearl. They sent a task force into Hawaiian waters, with one CV and an escort of multiple CAs and subs. The fleet included transports, so apparently the enemy was intent on a landing.
The US fleet was at sea on patrol, with all carriers and its own escort. After spotting the enemy, all three US CVs sortied, but each of their raids was beaten back by the enemy CAP. No hits.
Not to be denied, land-based bombers arrived on the scene and did some serious damage to the Japanese fleet. No hits on the CV, but 3 subs and 3 cruisers, and a transport were sunk.

The British and Aussies have borne the brunt of fighting so far. The Aussies have sunk two landing craft groups in the Coral Sea by land-based bombers at Port Moresby. The British are falling back with heavy casualties in Malaya, and have just evacuated two divisions from Kuala Lumpur. Singapore will soon be on its own, with only 1 British and 1 Aussie division holding off the Japanese.
The Philippines is soon to fall, as only at Davao are their troops still holding out.
The US is still in buildup mode, laying down keels for subs and a carrier so far, reinforcing infantry in Hawaii, and flying a bomber group out to Johnston Island as an advanced warning for any future attack on Pearl.

The Japanese have completed the conquest of the Philippines, and have 1 Aussie division and the Singapore garrison invested at the tip of Malaya. The Dutch East Indies is lost also.
the British however are pushing back against tentative Japanese advances in Burma.
In a very surprising lapse, the Japanese have not attempted to take Rabaul. Australia continues to beef up defenses there, and a combines Aussie, US, and New Zealand task force is patrolling the area.
the US is still focussed on building up its woefully weak forces and infrastructure, not to mention its technological ability to wage war.
Here is the current research effort. It has to be increased quickly.

Still paying attention.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction
RE: 1,10 solo US AAR
If I continue right now, all ships for all nations will lose the ability to search and hit, as currently the time at sea is not being reset upon going to port.
