PBeM - You Got to Love it!
Hi Gents: [8D]
It was "strongly" suggested to me by the "forum police"... that I start a new thread dealing with PBeM. So here it is! [:'(]
Things I love about JTCS PBeM
Superior quality game play versus AI. IMO, there is nothing that beats playing against a human opponent. Feints, probes, deep recon missions, ambushes, etc. are now possible... and probable "events." Players need to "out think" their opponents and utilize superior tactics and moves to succeed on the battlefield. No longer can a player exploit the AI's many short comings to "win" a battle... cause you never know what may happen when playing against a human opponent! Also, when playing against a human opponent... that person's "morale" plays a role in the game. Wipe out some high value units like HQ or artillery... and you may be rewarded by your opponent resigning the match!
Multiple games at one time. Many PBeM generals have several games (from different theaters) underway at a time... against different opponents... creating unique and different conditions. Tactics that work against "cautious" Jones will be disastrous against "aggressive" Smith.
Turn-based combat / moves. I like being able to take my time and focus on a specific turn... checking LOS multiple times... reviewing the road network for possible friendly and enemy advances... calculating attack odds... watching the turn replay, etc. And then executing the turn... in a manageable chunk of time.
Maybe other PBeM enthusiasts can add to this list?
Also, if you only play against the AI, would like to understand why? [&:]
General AI Views. IMO, the AI is the weakest and most underdeveloped element of the CS game engine. HAL's "lack of robustness" directly impacts the entire player experience when playing solo - whether it is linked campaigns, dynamic campaigns, or generating a random battle? However, HAL's inefficiencies are either marginalized or completely avoided when playing human opponents. IMO, playing against human opponents will provide CS players with a much more rewarding and challenging experience than can ever be achieved by solo play versus the AI.
I was introduced to PBeM back in 2006... and have never looked back! [:D]
Good stuff!

RE: PBeM - You Got to Love it!
Hey MW, I too play almost exclusively against Hal, but mostly due to I'm modding too much to actually play the darn thing!!! I actually would love to play a patient person with a small scenario some time. I've been involved with CS since its inception, and helped to develope it to what it is today, but aside from advancing into 1942 way back in a DCG to have it crash(early days), and playing a few of the scenarios, I've not had a lot of experience playing this awesome game, ain't that a bitch?!
Thanks for the thread!
Mike

Hey Mike! [8D]
I'm happy to play a small EF or WF scenario with you! All optional rules = ON except EA and VV.
Assume you are registered on the CS Blitz ladder - correct?
Let me know! Thanks! [:)]

Hey MW, pick something out and start it, I will try to do my best, really appreciate this, this is new ground for me!! I am registered at the blitz, but last game was 2008??!! Says inactive, just play to reactivate?? What a slacker!!!![:-] Look forward to this!
If I can tear myself away from the compulsive CS modding, I would like to play this game just a tad more, and PBEM sounds like that's where it's at!!

Yes. I believe once you register a game... your status will revert to "active."
I just sent you an email with details on our CS scenario!
WF "Still Full of Fight"
All optional rules = ON except EA and VV.
You pick the side you wish to play and send me a game turn!
See you shortly on the Western Front! [8D]

Mike, if you are still in the member report area, once Mike reports the game you will be an "active member". [:D]
If not Toni and Dave can help you get "active" again. [:)]
Though we all know that you are active for sure! [&o]

RE: PBeM - You Got to Love it!
Mike, I don't play any other game. All the ones I tried get to be bore fests after a while. [&:]
I even have an EF campaign going in case my opponents turns are few and far between and I need my CS fix for the day.
That and designing scenarios keep me busy and interested. [:D]

Scenario design seems to me to be an art form. I don't possess that gift unfortunately!! I've tried to make a few, but they seem to shallow to me, or something, will have to work on that!! My hat is off to all you folks that create these works of art, very impressive to make something come alive like you do, thank you!!
I like the DCG's, and have tinkered with custom picks to make it more interesting at times, quite a bit can be done with this feature they also can keep ones interest piqued for a long time!
