New Scen - Battle of Burma

Post by Andy Mac »

OK guys now that my 4 scens have made it into the official patch I am now working on a new Land/Air only scen covering the battle of Burma probably from 1st Jan 42 to about end of May 42 depending on what I do on victory conditions

This is very much WIP and I have most of the LCU's done but I am a little low on data (my 2nd volume of shores is in a box in Scotland) for the air side.

I need to know the arrival of the following

Allied Air Groups from India date of arrival and strenght
Allied Air groups - evaccing Malaya arrival and strength

Japanese Air groups date and time of arrival

Anyone have that data that could dig it out I know its in shores vol 2 but I cannot get my hands on my copy help please

Did any air units go from Malaya to Burma? Didn't they all go to the DEI and were destroyed there?

Anyway, in case you haven't got the starting layout (as of February 1st):

At Rangoon: 25 AVG H81s (18 operational) and ten Hurricanes of 17 amd 135 Squadron.

At Toungoo: 12 Blenheim IV of 113 Squadron, 4 Buffaloes of 67 Squadron and 6 Lysanders of 28 and 1 IAF Squadron.

At Bassein: 3 Blenheims of 3 CD Flight.

On 2 February, four additional Hurricanes arrived for 135 Squadron at Rangoon.

In fact, Allied air arrived in drips and drabs. There's no way to say "this squadron arrived on this date".

By about the 15th, the picture looked like this:

- Three squadrons of Hurricanes (17, 135 and 136) with 26 aircraft between them.

- 67 Squadron, with 5 servicable Buffaloes.

- Two Blenheim squadrons (45 and 113) with 27 aircraft between them.

- Two Lysander squadrons (28 and 1 IAF) with 22 aircraft between them.

Andy wouldn you think about other Burma campaign scenarios? Like 1943-1944 2nd Arakan + Chindits + Stillwel or 1944-1945 Kohima-Imphal with allied counterattack?

I tend to do the ones that interest me barb both of the scenarios you mention are a lot more work than the one I am doing and that is a consideration late war scens need a lot more work to get done whereas I am almost done this one

Battle of Burma v1

OK here is the 1st version of the new battle of Burma Scenario

The AI only works for Japan and the air side is a bit sketchy I need more data on other air sqns committed to the theatre but the scen does work v the jap AI.

Andy, I am going to give it a whirl. I don't want to do anything stupid. Do I just download this into my regular AE folder ?

Victory conditions are a bit tough at present as it depends on writing down Burma Corps or at least it should

Gave it a try Andy, had the whole IJA trapped in Rangoon.  Maybe the AI needs to have multiple targets.

It was fun though, trying to shuffle around those undersized and low morale Allied Bns and the air battle was interesting with the RAF & AVG on the winning side until lack of numbers began to tell.
