All quiet in the Western Pacific: Rysyonok (A) vs Duncan (J)

Post by Rysyonok »

Scenario: #7, 1922 PBEM with the latest 1.205 Matrix update. Yes, this means having virtually no ground reinforcements :)

House rules: The game is to be as historical as possible. Only those nations attacked by Japan fight back; others join in only if it would have made sense in real life. e.g. United Kingdom would come to help the Netherlands within a few months. Allied military buildup is limited until Japan declares war.

Current status: It's 6/8/22 and it's still quiet all around. There are rumors that Japanese forces are moving around, but the general opinion is that there is no imminent danger. British, Allied, and French forces are leaving Tiensin and Shanghai, as supply situation is not that good in China, and there are rumors of peasant rebellions.

Ground reinforcements

Post by Rysyonok »

As I stated before, ground reinforcements are virtually nonexistent. The latest patch pushed arrival dates for 99% of units to 1926-1930 range even for #7, 1922 PBEM scenario (#1 appears to be fine).

This is going to make every single unit count. Airforce and navy shall have to prepare for a lot of bombardments.

That looks a bit odd. I have been running 1.205u since it came out and I have not seen this change in reinforcements. Have I missed a patch? Good to see another current AAR, btw.

Well, there's 1.205u that Tankerace had on his ftp site and 1.205u that Matrix just released... I used the latter one. It took out ground reinforcements - and left some of the 1.205 bugs still in, e.g. Hermes' air squadrons set to plane type 0.

Do you still have the original 1.205u setup file?

Just checking in. I am the other half of the PBEM (and a PBEM rookie at that). I will probably not comment as much as Rysyonok, but will occasionally put in my two yen's worth.

The quiet start was due to my efforts to rearrange the Japanese forces into a more logical, to me, set-up. Although the scenario instructions indicated the Japanese started with no troops loaded on TFs, that was not the case. So, there was a limit to what I could do and even that required some sailing to and fro.

Those rumors about Japanese forces Rysyonok refers to were a case of mistaken identity. It was just some small...well, maybe not small, groups of peace-loving Japanese tourists on some new tours from Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere Cruise Lines. Just today, some of them began their beach holidays on Wake Island, Batan Island and a couple of holiday spots in the Philippines.

Another successful submarine attack for USN. I'll admit that I was rather pessimistic about these ships with the changes in the last patch and with doctrines being on, but then again, you never know :)

AK Syogen Maru, torpedoed earlier by S-9, sinks - 10,000 tons to her account. First kill for USN submarines.

IJN cruiser makes it way to south pacific, further than I expected. I will have to increase my escort efforts. 8 AMCs have been started on at Mare Island, to be ready in 6 months.

Japanese are making very good use with their long-range scout cruisers. USN is working day and night on an effective (yet cheap) way to counter that.

A neutral Dutch convoy is intercepted by Japanese. Armed convoys are going to become a reality for Dutch and British merchantment in the very near future.
