1805 Campaign Minor country political status

Post by Latro »

The political status of a lot of minor countries is wrong.
(In respect to EiH and history.)
I am wondering why nobody complained about this before since some of the status are simply ridiculous (Liege, Luxemburg, Breisgau, Savoy, Lausitz, ...)

Here is the list:

Baden: should be French Influenced
Bavaria: should be Neutral
Berg: should be Prussian Ally
Breisgau: should be French Influenced !!!
Corsica: should be French Home Province !
Cyrenaica: should be 'Conquered' by Tripolitania (Secondary District)
Dalmatia: should be Austrian Conquered
Genoa: should be French Conquered
Georgia: should be Russian Free State
Gottingen: should be Prussian Conquered
Holstein: should be 'Conquered' by Denmark (Secondary District)
Lausitz: should be 'Conquered' by Saxony (Secondary District)
Liege: should be French Conquered !!!
Lombardy: should be French Free State
Luxemburg: should be French Conquered !!!
Modena: should be French Free State resp. 'Conquered' by Lombardy (Secondary District)
Morocco: should be Spanish Influenced
Munster: should be Neutral !!!
Naples: should be Spanish Ally
Parma: should be French Free State resp. 'Conquered' by Lombardy (Secondary District)
Romagna: should be French Free State resp. 'Conquered' by Lombardy (Secondary District)
Savoy: should be French Conquered !!!
S.Pommerania: should be 'Conquered' by Sweden (Secondary District)
Thuringia: should be Prussian Ally
Tuscany: should be Spanish Conquered
Wurzburg: should be Prussian Ally

Since you use the EiH map you should use the EIH minor country political status as well.
Either do it yourself or give us the scenario editor soon [;)]

Furthermore you should implement all of the EiH-'Kingdoms' as well !
Not just Poland, Ottoman Empire (= EiA, not EiH) and C. of Rhine.
Otherwise we have an EiA/EiH hybrid which combines the worst of both games !
My wish would be an editor for this as well !

I don't exspect that the AI will be much of a challenge ever [;)]
But I want to have a decent PBEM tool at least !

EiH has several versions. Did those come from the one they used to make EIANW?

The map they use in EIANW came with EIH V4 in October 2001.
The political status are from this and later versions.

In my original mail I overlooked 'Danzig':
It should be Prussian Conquered and not a Prussian Home province.

I've been curious about some of the setups.  The political status list above appears more historically accurate than what we've got now. I would expect the default unit setups and political statuses for all scenarios to be as accurate as possible.

Maybe this is opening a can of worms regarding past arguments that I'm not aware of, but shouldn't the latest version of EiH be the most up-to-date with these things resolved after 20-some years?

On the subject of minor country politics, I question being able to dispatch diplomatic teams to other powers' influenced/allied minors without cost.  It seems too easy to undo someone else's diplomatic successes they had to pay for.  Shouldn't there be a cost or perhaps reduce the chances of an effect?

Also been thinking about this and yes it seems to easy (to the point where spending money on minor diplomacy is worthless). I think that spent money on diplomacy probably should act as a modifier to other powers diplomacy tries for the current month.

Example: if we have a minor where i pay 3 to influence and succed that minor should have +3 added to its diplomacy roll for the remaining of that month when resolving other countries.

Or maybe even better 3 modified by any negative diplomacy modifier, so if this minor has a -2 relation with me i get 3-2=1 added to that nations diplomacy resolution towards other major powers.

Another alternative would ofc be to use the final number of the resolve roles so if the final success is 2 over the needed number, two is added to the minors roll towards other powers, probably the best solution.

The only time it pays to pay for diplomacy is if (a) the minor is already influenced, (b) it has a corps and/or fleet, and (c) you know someone is declaring war on you very very soon.  E.g. Turkey on first turn of game vs AIs vis a vis Tunisia.

I don't think you can apply funds to diplomacy if the minor is already influenced or allied by/to another.

Strategy-wise, another situation where you may want to consider using diplomacy (paid or not) is when you want and anticipate going to war soon and want to pick up that otherwise difficult minor without a fight. For example, a particularly sweet gambit (if you can swing it) is, as Spain, use diplomacy to make allies of the Neopolitans, before declaring war on a minor ally of another major power (e.g., Algieria) hoping Turkey has it's "support Minor" box checked. The result is, of course, Spain picks up Naples and gets a beneficial war while saddling Turkey with the 4pp's to get the festivities started.

...and furthermore, since Turkey is the aggressor (through the 'support'), if Spain is careful to -not- call his allies, Turkey doesn't get to call his. And France is somewhat likely to be an ally of Turkey.
