Play Balance and the Brits

Post by George40 »

Just a couple of quick observations from playing through through the full campaign (plus a couple of the short ones) as the British about 1.5 times (so far).

It seems that there is really no reason to use the problematic British generals after mid 1776. Burgoyne is slow, leave him in Quebec or put him under Cornwallis. Have Riedesel lead the Northern Army (he rocks). Some mechanic that penalized leader switching would help. Better yet, an option to randomize leaders so you didn't know their abilities until you had used them for a while would be great. It would lend more historical flavor to things in that you would have to experiment for a while to find your best generals.

It seems to me that the British needs for garrison troops are too low. It is relatively easy to over run an area, drop 1 regiment in each key town and keep steam rolling once you have gained the initative. It seems to me that it would give better play balance if "passifying" an area took more troops and took longer as a way of representing the Brit's nearly impossible garrison task. Single regiments in areas that were not passified with strong rebel sentiment and reasonable population might be subject to hits due to rebellion and could cause new malitia to appear in that area. It should help slow the Empire down a bit by requiring that armies linger in major population centers to help passify them and that they leave reasonably sized garrisons behind.

Still loving the game so far. Thanks for the fun.
