Glory. Tied with Das Boot for my favourite war movie ever.

Waterloo. Has its faults, but Rod Steiger is a brilliant Nappy, and well worth its place just for the scale of the thing.

Hamburger Hill. Vastly under-rated 'Nam movie. Embarrassingly better than Full Metal Jacket and Platoon, only We Were Soldiers is close.

Gettysburg. About the the best they could have done with the budget, it just needed another 10,000 or so re-enactors! Stephen Lang should have won an Oscar, or an Emmy, or something - astonishing performance as Pickett.

A TV mini series IIRC called Blue and Grey or something like that in the ACW.
The Patriot, Mel Gibson, ARW.

When I read the thread title I missed the "war" part and thought of Fritz the Cat. If you are old enough to not remember the sixties you might know the movie.

Good choices so far.  I'd add "Sparticus" and "Dune".

Dune was of course a great book, shame about the movie.

Lawrence of Arabia, great film.
Also liked Doctor Zhivago.
Zulu excellent film. Also liked Shaka Zulu too.
El Cid is an impressive film.
The Patriot I liked a lot.
The Last Samurai is good, not as good as Shogun of course.

Not quite as epic, but Pork Chop Hill and MASH are also good.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

Starship Troopers
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Although it was a fictionalized acount of events, I'd say Braveheart.

For a historical film, it is Gettysburg.

For future war, I'd say Star Wars 1977.

Starship Troopers ruined what was one of my all time favorite books.
