Advanced Tactics After Action Report - Part 1

Turn 2, 12th of July 1941

Above the Pripiat marches, the German advance had more speed then expected. They are already at the Dvina River and past Minsk.

Below the Pripiat marches: the Germans wiped out the whole front except some remainders in Odessa and near Parakop.

In the north I tried to form a line along the Dvina. Blowing the bridge at Riga however failed. A small counterattack near Kiev was successful. I am massing armoured reinforcements in the area behind Minsk. The first 5 medium tanks have arrived there. No training they will have to go straight into battle! And as a side note: I am using the Finland front to train the remainders of my air force.

In the south I reinforced my positions behind the Dnjepr. I sent most of my reinforcements north. However some local production (Kharkov, Maikop, Sevastopol, and Kiev) is being used to reinforce the south. And take a look at Odessa. The town is surrounded at the moment but still supplied by sea. I left a strong garrison.

Turn 3, 1st of August 1941

In the north I clearly did not manage to hold the Dvina line and will have to try to establish a defensive line closer to Leningrad. In the centre, on the road to Smolensk, the Germans did not advance much. In the south the Germans took Kiev and crossed the Dnjepr.

In the North I am building a line closer to Leningrad. In the centre I organized a counter attack on a German armoured concentration near Orsha. I am committing probably 2/3 of the battle ready tanks of the USSR.

And it was successful. Though casualties seem equal, the readiness loss enemy troops incurred will hamper the further German advance towards Moscow.

I was not able to get many reinforcements to the southern fronts, so next turn my factories will deliver the brunt of the production to the Kiev HQ.

In the extreme South I was able to repulse the weak German bridgehead over the Dnjepr. The fact that the Germans had no air cover active probably helped me to use my remaining air force to good effect. Furthermore you can see on the screenshot I am sending a small soviet force from Sevastopol towards Rumania. Just to be annoying.
